TMLT TITBITS Newsletter of the Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre Inc Volume 16 Issue 9 September 2013 There was a disappointing turn out for the AGM this year with only 18 members present, including the committee. However, what we missed in numbers, we didn’t miss in content. We elected the committee as follows: Cath Buckley - President Brian Franklin - Secretary VicePresident - Julie Young Graham Lassiter - Treasurer For all other appointments please see back page. Our outgoing President, Warrick Bailey, was unable to be present as he was in hospital recovering from a hip operation; however he was with us in spirit as he had provided a power point presentation, a copy of which will go separately to each member as it was too large to include in this newsletter. His presentation was received with applause, and who knows, maybe this might set the scene for future AGMs. Despite the lack of numbers, the evening was a great success, followed by a lively social with sandwiches and nibbles supplied by Lyn and other members. Thanks to all. Y es, it’s that time of year again, when Bernie Klupfel holds one of his legendary balls; however this time it is a combined Old time and Rock ’n’ Roll. In other words, something for everyone. This is very much a community effort with many groups getting involved. So, if you are not one of the many volunteers, do come along and support the groups who will be the beneficiaries. If you are a volunteer bring a plate; contact Lyn on 5545 1331. Tickets are available from the Newsagents or Bernie on 0403 015 267.

There was a disappointing turn out for the AGM this year with only 18 members present, including the committee. However, what we missed in numbers, we didn’t miss in content. We elected the committee as follows:

Cath Buckley - President Brian Franklin - Secretary

Vice– President - Julie Young Graham Lassiter - Treasurer

For all other appointments please see back page.

Our outgoing President, Warrick Bailey, was unable to be present as he was in hospital recovering from a hip operation; however he was with us in spirit as he had provided a power point presentation, a copy of which will go separately to each member as it was too large to include in this newsletter. His presentation was received with applause, and who knows, maybe this might set the scene for

future AGMs. Despite the lack of numbers, the evening was a great success,

followed by a lively social with sandwiches and nibbles supplied by Lyn and other members. Thanks to all.

Y es, it’s that time of year again, when Bernie Klupfel holds one of his legendary balls; however this time

it is a combined Old time and Rock ’n’ Roll. In other w o r d s , s o m e t h i n g f o r e v e r y o n e . This is very much a community effort with many groups getting involved. T MLT’s next production is a farce by Ray Cooney. The Auditions produced four new

members to TMLT which is very exciting and we are very pleased to welcome them as they travel from off the mountain for rehearsals. The cast is as follows:

Henry - Steve Silansky Jean - Viviane Gian Vic - Brian Franklin Betty - Jody Lanziano Davenport - John Ross Slater - Howard Jones Bill - Gavin Jobson

We are very pleased to welcome back to the stage, Steve Silanksy, whom long term members will remember seeing in The Odd Couple (female version). Back stage we have David Scott as Stage Manager, with Diana Fenton, Antoinette Benson and newcomer Jessica King. Barbara Lassiter is doing Sound Effects & Lighting. Pam Marsh will be coordinating Front of House so if you would like to be considered for that let her know on 5545 0205. If you would like to help back-stage in any way, please let Joan know on 5543 5686. Joan Stalker-Brown, member, and Director of the play, is very pleased with the way rehearsals are going and is looking forward to opening night which will be on Friday 1 November 2013.

FILM CLUB NEWS

Sunday 15 September

Zamia Theatre

Doors open 5.30 pm for around 6 pm start. We are very pleased to announce that we are now able to screen Whisky

Galore. Members will remember that we had hoped to show it a few months ago, but were unable to source it; however that is no longer the case and we do hope that many of you will come along and enjoy this old classic movie. We will also be able to show members an additional background documentary to the original event, which should make for an interesting evening.

The Ealing classic about Scottish islanders attempting to liberate a boatload of alcohol is beguiling, subversive and a complete joy. Basil Radford plays a flustered Englishman sent to command a Home Guard force on a remote Scottish island during the second world war. He is pop-eyed with indignation to find that his men, along with the entire civilian population – maddened by a wartime alcohol shortage – are secretly intent on plundering 50,000 cases of whisky from a shipwreck. This tale of an outsider failing to come to grips with a tight-knit com-munity could be screened as a triple bill with Local Hero ("Oil-money galore") and The Wicker Man ("Occult conspiracy galore")

O ctober 18 - 20 is Scarecrow Festival time and TMLT are hoping

to have some scarecrows ready to enter the competition. If you would like to help out with making one, two or even more scarecrows, then give Julie Young or Pam Marsh a call on 5545 1895 or 5545 0205.

B elieve it or not, now is the time to be thinking of the

Christmas party, which it is hoped will be held on 14 December. Pam Hawthorne is checking out some venues; however if you have eaten out somewhere really good that will be serving Christmas dinner, then let her know on 5545 1028 so she can check it out.

T here is just a little space left to wish

Warrick well with his recovery and to thank him for being a marvellous President. He has been a great fighter on behalf of TMLT and his determination and diplomacy has served us all well. When he is back at full “running pace” I reckon he will be there on the front line, helping to improve the theatre for the benefit of us all.
