Purpose
Tower Mounted Amplifier is used to minimize the path imbalance due to weak uplink signal
strength on a cell. TMA also enhances the uplink signal strength in order to reduce the ping pong
handovers due to weak uplink. TMA will be installed in CMPak network to increase uplink signal
strength and to improve customers perception.
StepByStepProcedure
# Step Responsibility DescriptionStep 1 Choose the right Cell* RAN
Optimization
This is very important for TMA project to choose the right cell
for TMA use. RAN Optimization team will select the list of cells
where TMA is required. This will be done by monitoring cell
statistical data
Step 2 EAS Dry Connection
Availability
FOPs It is responsibility of FOPs to make sure that at least one dry
connection is available for selected cell for External Alarm
Patching. This can also be done by removing already patched
alarms having least importance.
Step 3 Project Execution Plan
and Timeline
Vendor Final list of cells will be given to the vendor to submit the
project execution plan and timeline accordingly
Step 4 Assignment of WorkOrder RANOptimization
and OMC
A 12 hours work order will be assigned to vendor to performinstallation activity, as this activity involves sector lock.
Step 5 Project Execution Vendor TMA installation will be performed by Vendor according to the
submitted plan
Step 6 Site Access FOPs CMPak FOPs will be responsible to make access to the sites for
vendor to install TMA.
Step 7 TMA Installation and
EAS Patching
Vendor Vendor will be responsible for TMA installation and External
Alarm patching for the cell
Step 8 Initial Test* FOPs and
Vendor
Along with the Vendor Fops will conduct the initial test before
and after the activity if all installations are done correctly
Step 9 Removal of Snags, if
any
Vendor In case of any service affecting snags it shall be removed
immediately, for other Vendor will have 2 days to fix the issue.
Step10
RF PerformanceAnalysis*
RANOptimization
After TMA installation and removal of all Snags, RANOptimization will monitor the stats and prepare benchmark
report of the change. In case of any ambiguities found FOPS and
Vendor will be intimated.
Step
11
TMA PAT RAN
Optimization,
FOPs
After monitory for 7 days from installation of TMA, RAN
Optimization and FOPs will sign the PAT document.

Howtochoosetherightcell:
It is very important to choose the right cell to install TMA. This can be done by analyzing statistical
data and user behaviour.
Path Imbalance (ve value) depicts weak uplink signal strength, cells with high pathimbalance values
High number of ping pong uplink handovers for a cell due to weak uplink signalstrength
High number of call drop rate due to weak uplink signal strength Poor uplink signal quality due to weak signal strength Average high TA for the cell Recent Alarms on the cell Hardware faults that may impact path balance Cell should be selected on the basis of at least 15 days trend
InitialTest:
BeforeTMA
Installation
Following test must be conducted before the TMA is installed on the cell. This will be performed by
vendor and CMPak FOPs
Complete health check of cell Antenna Physical Parameters (Azimuth, Tilt, Height) VSWR TRX Power Total Output Power Cable Loss

AfterTMAInstallation
Following test must be conducted after the TMA is installed on the cell. This will be performed by
vendor and CMPak FOPs
Complete health check of cell Antenna Physical Parameters (Azimuth, Tilt, Height) VSWR TRX Power Total Output Power Cable Loss Installation should be as per the agreed layout provided by the vendor. Tagging should be complete (for TMA, Alarm cables, Jumpers) Proper grounding of PDU and TMA. Proper power connections of PDU in rectifier with suitable wiring connections and Tee
Bias.
All alarms are checked and removed. Cable loss, insertion loss etc. should be as per thebelow the specified threshold.
Weather proofing and finishing tape on jumper cables and connectors should beinstalled.
Proper fixing of TMA on mount (with appropriate clamps). Proper cable layout and is arrangement is done cleanly. All snags are removed. External alarms are working. VSWR is below the threshold. Ensure the entire check list is complete. PAT document is filled accurately.
