GETTING STARTED

This is a guide for installing the Map Intelligence Client - Cognos 3.2.4 (MI Client).

BEFORE BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION

Ensure that the following is set up and available before installing the MI Client.

Verify that there is ample local disk space present (approximately 42 Mb is required).

The MI Client requires access to the Cognos Dispatcher port as well as the URI gateway port (By default

9300 and 80 respectively)

Verify that the following applications are installed on the target machine:

Microsoft Windows system (NT, 2000, XP), Linux equiv of Fedora Core 8 (or higher) or Solaris 8, 9 or

10.

Map Intelligence Server - Version 3.2.4 or higher.

Cognos 10.1 Fix Pack 1 or Cognos 8.4

Internet Explorer (IE) 8 or Higher.

Java Development Kit (JDK) version JDK 1.6.

To determine the JDK version that will be used by default, select Run from the Windows menu and open a cmd window. Run the command "java -version" in the window and the java version will be displayed.

INSTALLING THE MI CLIENT

INSTALLING THE AGENT

In some instances the screenshots in this guide may show an earlier version number to the version you are installing, this means that there have been no changes to the screen since the release shown.

To Install the Agent, follow the instructions below:

1. From the Map Intelligence Client Menu, click on Install Client to begin the installation.

If you have downloaded the Map Intelligence Client, you will need to extract the contents of the zip file into a location of choice. Then change directory to that location. There you will see the files and directories that comprise the Map Intelligence Client installer. To get the Map Intelligence Client Menu above you will need to run the start.exe program.

The Welcome dialog will appear.

2. Click the Next button to continue.

3. An Information dialog box will appear. Read this thoroughly and ensure that you have the necessary items.

4. Click the Next button to continue.

5. The Map Intelligence End User License Agreement dialog box will appear. It is important that you read and

understand the terms and conditions of the license agreement and that you are suitably authorized to

accept its terms.

6. Click the I accept the terms of this license agreement radio button to accept the terms of the license

agreement.

7. Click the Next button to continue.

8. The Select the installation path dialog box will appear. Click the Browse button if you want to navigate to

a path other than the one specified on the screen.

If you change the default installation path, ensure that the path entered does not contain trailing spaces. This can cause problems in a Windows environment, where such names are invalid.

9. Click the Next button to continue.

10. A message box will appear stating the target directory will be created. Click the OK button to create the

directory.

If a Message box appears stating the directory already exists, you should select another directory.

11. The Select JDK path dialog will appear. Click the Browse button if you want to navigate to a path other

than the one specified on the screen. As stated previously, a JDK version between 1.6.0 and 1.6.99 must be

available, a java runtime environment (JRE) will not be sufficient.

12. Click the Next button to continue.

13. The Port Settings dialog box will appear.

14. In the field, enter the main MI Cognos Agent port number. All ports will be calculated from this base. Ports

by default will be in the following range:

9050 - 9053

15. Click the Next button to continue.

The Memory Allocation dialog box will appear.

16. In the Specify the total memory for the Agent field, enter the maximum amount of memory in MB (to a

maximum of 1536 MB) the Agent will use.

The Cognos Version Configuration dialog box will appear. The current installer supports Cognos 8.4 and

Cognos 10.1.

18. Select the appropriate radio button for the version for your installation.

19. Click the Next button to continue.

The Cognos Server Configuration dialog box will appear.

20. In the External URL field, enter the Dispatcher URL of your Cognos Installation. The hostname must be

changed to reflect the actual server on which Cognos is running.

21. In the Namespace field, enter the Namespace of your Cognos Installation.

Consult your Cognos documentation for further information.

22. In the Cognos web service host enter in the external URI host (do not include the port).

23. Click the Next button to continue.

The Map Intelligence Server Configuration dialog box will appear.

24. In the Host field, enter the host name of your Map Intelligence Server installation.

25. In the Port field, enter the port number of your Map Intelligence Server installation.

26. In the Language field, set the language the Map Intelligence Server is set up for. (See i18n.properties file

on the Map Intelligence Server as a reference).

27. In the Region field, set the region the Map Intelligence Server is set up for. (See i18n.properties file on the

Map Intelligence server as a reference).

28. Click the Next button to continue.

The Select Packs dialog box will appear.

The Cognos Client Configuration and Tomcat check boxes are mandatory selections and cannot be unselected

29. If you are installing Map Intelligence on a Microsoft Windows server, you are able to install Map

Intelligence as a Windows service. Select the Windows Services checkbox.

Unselecting this pack means that you must either (a) later install this Service in order to start/stop it, or (b) run the server in Console mode as logged-in user. In the latter case, logging out of Windows or closing the command line windows, will effectively shutdown the server.

30. Click the Next button to continue.

31. The Ready to install dialog box will appear detailing the items to be installed. Ensure that these are correct

before proceeding.

32. Click the Next button to begin the installation.

33. The Installation progress dialog box will appear, showing the Pack installation progress and the overall

installation progress.

34. After the Installation is complete, click the Next button.

The Shortcuts dialog screen will appear.

35. Select a Program Group for the Shortcuts, by clicking on a program group in the Program Group menu.

The selected Program Group will be highlighted. Clicking the Default button resets the Program Group to

the default MI Agent - Cognos 3.2.

36. You can specify whether to create the shortcut for the current user or all users by clicking the appropriate

radio button.

37. The Create Shortcuts checkbox should be checked to create the Program Group Shortcut.

38. The Create shortcut on the desktop check box should be checked to create a shortcut that appears on

your desktop.

39. Click the Next button to continue.

The Installation Confirmation dialog box will appear, confirming your installation has completed

successfully.

Information on where to find the MI Client uninstaller program is also given.

40. Click the Done button to complete the installation.

SELECTION

The following instructions are for setting up Selection for Cognos.

For Cognos installations using Internet Information Services (IIS)

1. Copy the file <MI Agent install dir>\tomcat\webapps\miclient\proxy\proxy.asp

to:

<Cognos install dir>\ibm\cognos\c10\webcontent (Cognos 10.1).

<Cognos install dir>\ibm\cognos\c10\webcontent (Cognos 8.4).

2. In IIS, give access to the proxy.asp file scripting permissions.

To Test

1. Start the MI Agent for Cognos and run the proxy.asp script in a browser. You should see the following

output

STARTING AND STOPPING THE AGENT

TO START THE AGENT

1. From Start > Programs > Pitney Bowes > MI Agent – Cognos 3.2.4, select Run MI Cognos Agent

TO STOP THE AGENT

1. From Start > Programs > Pitney Bowes > MI Client - Cognos 3.2.4, select Stop MI Cognos Agent

The exact path may vary depending on the path selected during installation.

UNINSTALLING THE MI CLIENT

On installation of the Map Intelligence Client Agent an Uninstaller is created.

1. Go to location of your MI Client Cognos installation.

2. Open the Uninstaller folder and click the uninstaller.jar file, the Uninstaller appears.

3. Click the Force the deletion check box.

4. Click the Uninstall button. On removal of the MI Client Cognos a confirmation [Finished] message will

appear on the Uninstaller.
