Some floors are designed to look good. Others are really practical.And there are those that are performance-led.PRO-TEK™ WPC combines all three.

In September 2018, The Flooring Show hosted the official UK launch of PRO-TEK™ WPC – a new generation of engineered vinyl flooring. Before doors had even opened, it received a Flooring Innovation Award and the scene was set.

Wood plastic composite or ‘WPC’ is still a relatively new concept in the UK - but in America, it’s one of the fastest growing surface sectors. Many US retailers offer WPC as an alternative to stick-down LVT and laminate, as WPC combines a sought-after natural effect and the practical benefits of vinyl, with additional technical features. PRO-TEK™ WPC’s popularity has also been driven by the demanding commercial sector and it is widely specified in new build homes, healthcare, retail, education and hospitality sectors.

In essence, this new type of flooring provides an authentic wood or tile look, with a textured ‘embossed in register’ finish, and incorporates a 100% waterproof structural core and a built-in underlay. PRO-TEK™ WPC’s glueless locking joint forms part of the core layer and the floor clicks together to create a flush, gap-free surface. It’s this unique build-up of layers that gives the floor its rigid feel and which prevents subfloor irregularities from distorting the surface. PRO-TEK™ WPC also cuts installation time, making the floor ideal for fast-track commercial installations. Add in its additional acoustic properties, healthy ‘phthalate-free’ construction, and design breadth, and it’s easy to see why PRO-TEK™ WPC is becoming the new surface of choice on our shores too, for residential and commercial projects.

The PRO-TEK™ WPC range includes 40 individual designs, in a spectrum of shades – from palest ivory, through grey and honey tones, to rich mocha and ebony tones. Wood effects are divided into four collections: ‘Excel’ rustic planks; ‘Distressed’ vintage designs; ‘Excel Long Plank’, which includes wider, longer boards, and ‘Essential’ – a range designed for new build homes, refurbishment and student accommodation. The fifth collection, Excel Tile, includes eight designs in marble, slate and travertine effects.

A complementary accessories range includes five profile designs, with a colour and décor-matched option for every floor. Formats include a T Bar, End Bar, Reducer Bar, L Moulding and Stair Nosing, each created to provide a perfect finishing touch.

QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTIONSPRO-TEK™ WPC engineered vinyl flooring is manufactured to a higher specification standard than any other WPC engineered vinyl product - and it offers a thicker, stronger WPC construction. To guarantee production of a premium flooring product, PRO-TEK™ conducts more tests on its floors, using independent third-party ISO accredited laboratories. Test results and technical specifications are included in the tables that follow. At its manufacturing facilities, PRO-TEK™ employs a full-time resident inspector to oversee the whole production process, from start to finish, ensuring that PRO-TEK™ WPC is a problem-free premium product. Once produced, the flooring and its packaging is inspected a second time by a senior inspector. This process is filmed, with footage sent directly to the PRO-TEK™ management inspection team for further close examination. Samples are randomly selected and sent to an ISO accredited laboratory for further comprehensive testing. Once all of these procedures have been carried out, and their findings approved, PRO-TEK™ WPC flooring is then released, ready for distribution to customers around the world.
