Chief John D. Hall called for extra assistance during an assault on East 9th Street November 12 shortly before 8 p.m. which resulted in the arrest of two Wellston residents. Arrested was Charles R. Breech, driving a 1989 Ford. He was taken to the Jackson County Correction Facility on charges of driving under suspension, fictitious plates, failure to control, resisting arrest, and persistent disorderly conduct. Apparently the Ford Breech was driving left the roadway at 9th Street and Vermont Avenue and traveled into a yard. Also arrested was Dale L. Hanes, East 9th Street, who was incarcerated on charges of persistent disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. According to police, the victim, who resides on 9th Street, was examined at the scene by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services (JCEMS) personnel but refused transport. The victim, police said, refused to press assault charges on either man. Charges were filed against Keith A. Doles, Womeldorf Lane, following a gas drive off at The Store, South Pennsyl- vania Avenue, November 13 shortly after 4 p.m. Doles pumped $15 worth of gas into a ‘99 Nissan belonging to a woman in Hamden and drove off without paying for the fuel. Doles was charged for theft of the gas, driving under suspen- sion, and trespassing as he had been ordered not to enter the property at The Store. Roberta Smith, North Chestnut Street, Jackson, parked her 2003 Buick on the lot at Jenkins Memorial Assisted Living, Jenkins Memorial Road, November 16 and went inside to work. When she returned to the vehicle she discovered a wallet belonging to her daughter, Danielle Smith, had been stolen. Sometime between 6 p.m. November 14 and 8 a.m. the fol- lowing day unknown subject(s) entered Ranta’s Resale, South Pennsylvania Avenue. It is possible entry was made through a window. Many of the shelves filled with merchandise were ran- sacked. An assortment of merchandise, including a scanner, toys, and costume jewelry, was stolen. Personnel from the Wellston Fire Department called police to the East “D” Street residence of Linda J. Graham November 17 at 10:26 p.m. Graham was cited for disorderly conduct by intoxication. She was transported by JCEMS to Holzer Medical Center-Jackson for an overdose of prescription medication. Randy E. Hanes, South Wisconsin Avenue, came to the Police Department November 19 about 6 p.m. to report the theft of his wallet from his ‘90 Chevrolet truck. Hanes told police he had shopped several Wellston locations, the last of which was The Store, South Pennsylvania Avenue. Hanes and family members scoured the alleys in the area. In a north-south alley between Pennsylvania and Ohio Avenues, between First and Second Streets, the black wallet was located in a discarded box. $1,400 in cash had been stolen but Hanes’ identification and other doc- uments were inside. No injuries were reported in an accident on the lot at Dollar General, South Pennsylvania Avenue November 13 shortly before 1:30 p.m. Police report Rita Braley, Braley Road, was unparking her ‘95 Ford from a slot. As she headed southbound, Braley struck the passenger rear bumper of a parked, unoccu- pied 2003 Mitsubishi belonging to Ryann Harmon, Wilson Avenue, Hamden. No injuries were reported in an accident in a South Michigan Avenue driveway November 12 shortly after 9 p.m. According to police, Duane Winland, South Michigan Avenue, was back- ing his 2004 GMC in the drive and did not see a 2006 Ford, belonging to Randall Warrington, West 2nd Street, sitting in the drive. At 8:01 a.m., a witness or witnesses saw a truck strike a parked vehicle in front of the store and leave the scene without stopping. The parked vehicle was owned by David L. Windon of 96 North Chestnut Street, Jackson. Mod- erate damage was done to the left rear fender. Based on infor- mation they were given, police officers were able to find the truck involved in the wreck behind Guhl’s Country Store on East Main Street in Jackson. The driver of the truck, 53-year- old Anthony Lyle of Saginaw, Michigan, told officers he did not realize his truck had struck a parked vehicle. His truck is owned by Exhibition Services, Inc. of Bay City, Michigan. Wellston teen charged with shoplifting A Wellston teenager was nabbed for an alleged shoplifting crime Thursday evening, November 17, at the Jackson Wal- mart store. Jackson Police were called at 8:41 p.m. to the store where a 16-year-old Wellston boy was being detained. Store security personnel say the youth was in the store shop- ping with others and was seen concealing several items on his person and did not pay for them when his group went through a checkout line. Police filed a charge of Theft against the sus- pect in Jackson County Juvenile Court. Two TV sets stolen in Lesmil Road burglary A Wellston area resident reports a daytime burglary occurred at her home last Thursday afternoon, November 17. Angela Bretz of 968 Lesmil Road, Wellston, told the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office the burglary occurred sometime between 3 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Thursday with two television sets being stolen. Pattonsville Road home burglarized The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bur- glary at a Jackson area residence which occurred druring the daytime hours last Friday, November 18. Timothy J. Ousley of 9745 Pattonsville Road, Jackson, reported he returned home to find the back door pried open and the door glass broken in a successful attempt to gain entry. A jar of cash and change was stolen. Mulga Road home hit by daytime burglary The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a day- time burglary at a Wellston area residence in which the perpe- trators may have been seen. Effie Mullins of 1477 Mulga Road, Wellston, told deputies at 3:11 p.m. Friday, November 18, that a forced entry of the residence had been made sometime between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day. The front door and door frame were both damaged and the door was forced open. How- ever, nothing was missing from inside the house. A witness lat- er reporting seeing two unidentified men standing on the front porch of the residence prior to the time the crime was detected. Report: scrap-metal thieves caught in act Two young men face charges after they were allegedly caught in the act of stealing scrap-metal items from an Oak Hill area residence last Friday afternoon, November 18. Wayne Williams of 1426 Flatwoods Road, Oak Hill, called the Jack- son County Sheriff’s Office at 1:46 p.m. to report his wife had detained one of two males whom she had caught on the prop- erty with a pickup truck loaded with stolen scrap-metal items from the property. The second male escaped by running into the woods. When a deputy arrived just 11 minutes later, the one male subject, 18-year-old Stephen Maple of Franklin Furnace, was taken into custody and charged with Theft and Criminal Trespassing. A search was made for the second suspect, but he was not found. However, he has been identified and will face similar charges. Earlier the same day, Williams had reported another a similar theft at the same property which had occurred within the past several days. Stolen in that theft were two bat- teries from a farm tractor and an air compressor. Two shotguns, crossbow stolen from home The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports another burglary which occurred during the daytime hours while residents were away. Tommie Wansley of 698 Keenan Road, Wellston, report- ed Saturday, November 19, two shotguns and a crossbow were stolen from the home during a 2-hour period that same after- noon. The total value of the missing items was placed at $1,000. Boyfriend charged after alleged assault A 17-year-old Jackson boy is being charged with Assault in Jackson County Juvenile Court after an incident involving his girlfriend at 3:36 p.m. Saturday, November 19, at the boy’s residence. The alleged victim, 18-year-old Kylie R. Cook of 311 McKitterick Avenue, Jackson, alleged the boyfriend placed her in a headlock, punched her in the stomach and threw her to the ground. She signed the charge of Assault. Jackson woman charged with Intoxication Jackson Police charged a Jackson woman following an inci- dent in the downtown area in the early-morning hours Saturday, November 19. Police say that at 2:26 a.m., they spotted what appeared to be a very intoxicated female being carried outside Marie Laveau’s Bar at 201 East Main Street. When checking the situation, officers say the woman screamed and yelled and was not able to communicate. Consequently, police charged 24- year-old Stephanie A. Simpson of 103 Broad Street, Apartment 4, with Disorderly Conduct By Intoxication. She was held at the Jackson Police Department for six hours before being released. Man charged with Domestic Violence David E. Shover III, 38, of 10731 Chillicothe Pike, Jackson, was charged with Domestic Violence after an alleged incident last Saturday morning, November 19, at his residence. Jack- son County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called at 3:26 a.m. to the Shover residence where the alleged victim, Debbie S. Shover, of the same address, stated that David had grabbed and threatened her. She signed the charge against him. JPD charges man with OVI Sunday Jackson Police charged 55-year-old Emzy E. Mullins of 1185 Sand Hill Road, Wellston, with Operating AMotor Vehi- cle While Intoxicated (OVI) after an incident early Sunday morning, November 20. Police were called to Mike’s One Stop convenience store at 970 East Main Street, Jackson, at 1:16 a.m. after receiving a report of an intoxicated driver in the parking lot. Officers found Mullins behind the wheel of a vehicle with an open bottle of alcohol between his legs. After talking with Mullins and conducting sobriety tests, police charged him and took him into custody. Man charged after early-morning incident A young Jackson man was charged after he was reportedly seen stumbling around in the downtown area in the early- morning hours Sunday, November 20. At 5:38 a.m., Jackson Police were told an unidentified male was seen falling down and having trouble keeping his balance while walking in a downtown alley off Broadway Street. Police soon found a man nearby at the intersection of Pearl and Broadway Streets who appeared to be staggering. The suspect, identified as 18- year-old Tyler Stewart of 207 North Chestnut Street, Jackson, admitted he had inhaled some air duster and officers found two cans in his possession. Police charged Stewart with Pos- sessing Or Using Harmful Intoxicants and he was held tem- porarily at the Jackson Police Department. Wheelersburg cheerleaders donate to SOMC Cancer Center Members of the varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads at Wheelersburg High School recently donated $1,330 to the Cancer Compassion Fund at Southern Ohio Medical Center. The donation was collected as part of the school’s sys- tem-wide “Pirates for a Cure” fundraiser, which encouraged students, teachers and community members to raise breast cancer awareness by purchasing special pink and orange T-shirts throughout the month of October.
