CIRCULAR LETTER. SUBJEO'l'-RANOTIFlC.A.TlON.

1. TIJe term sancti(v, in the Hebrew, of the old Testament and in the Greek, of the New, signifies to make holy. lienee, holiness and ~anctlfication are in tlle 8criptures s,ynuouymous terms. The will of God is the standard of rigllt: Heuce, sanctJfiPcat.iou is nothing less than for a mau to be l>ronght to an entire resignation of uis will to the will or Gorl, an(l to liYe in tlle pfferiug up of his soul continually in tlle tlarnes of 10\·e, and as a whole burnt offering to Uurist. Fot' bene,·oleucc-impartial love to God and ruan- is tile Jaw of uis being, and he is, in tlte Scriptural sen~e, <t perfect tuau. Hence, sanctified See Buck's Theological Dictionary, A.1 ticle ou san ct.
