TITLE: Walking Together in the Light

TEXT: I John 1:1-7THEME: Accepting the first hand message of Jesus places us in a shared community of Light.

When we accept the gospel of Jesus we are immediately place into a community of believers

who share something in common and are driven to share with

others.

How does the gospel place the believer into a life changing

community?

I. It provides for us a shared faith grounded in historical truth. (1-2)

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.”

“Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Fellowship here is the Greek word “koinonia.”

• It literally means “to have or share in common.”

• It speaks of a bond that is formed because of a common purpose and shared belief.

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.”

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
