Managing your visibility…


Turning on/off your activity broadcasts

To prevent your network being updated with every update made to your

profile, it is recommended to un-tick the “activity broadcasts” box. Once

your profile is finalised, tick the box, this will allow profile updates to

appear in your connections news feeds.


Selecting who can see your activity feed

The “activity feed” box needs to be selected to “Only you” when you are

making changes to your profile. Once your profile is finalised, change

visibility to “Everyone”.


Selecting what others see when you’ve viewed their profile

Based on this setting is what will appear in peoples “Who’s viewed your

profile” section and the setting you select here depends on your purpose.

Best practice indicates that this should be set to “only you” at all times.


Photo and contact

information

Make sure your contact

information is up to date so

Personalise your URL

Create a URL for your

public profile that is easy

to use

Use a recent photo for your profile pic (one taken in the last two years).

The picture is the first impression that someone is going to have of you

and the only image that represents who you are.



Headline

Your headline allows you to:

– position your name against keywords that describe your

expertise

– position your profile higher in LinkedIn search results

While it might be tempting to add extra filler words, it can hurt your optimisation for key phrases.



Summary

Use the Summary section

to provide additional

descriptions about your

experience, expertise,

awards etc.

The Summary is also the

section of your profile

which has the highest

character count.
