Qualified Type V fluids are as follows:
1. Skydrol PE-5 from Solutia (Eastman)
2. Hyjet V from ExxonMobil
These two fluids are fully interchangeable and intermixable with all other Type IV and V hydraulic fluids.
It is highly recommended that all hydraulic fluid servicing be accomplished using Type V hydraulic fluids.
PAL will be shifting from using HyJet V to Skydrol PE-5, however, we will continue to use HyJet V until the
MRO stock is depleted.
Hydraulic Fluid samples will be sent to Eastman for testing Free-of-Charge. See below recommendations
of Eastman for a timely analysis of samples:

1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this article is to provide information regarding hydraulic fluids to be used in the hydraulic systems of the different Airbus aircraft.
2. BACKGROUND
Several Hydraulic fluids are available from two suppliers ExxonMobil and Solutia. This article gives references of hydraulic fluid to be used in Airbus aircraft.
3. DESCRIPTION
GENERAL:
Hydraulic fluids to be used in Airbus aircraft are according to specification NSA 307110.
This document can be found in the Process and Material Specification document (PMS 02-19-01). Fluids are listed in Appendix E1, page 39.
The following table gives the hydraulic fluids that are qualified for Airbus aircraft program:

New hydraulic fluid Skydrol PE-5 (type V) from Solutia has been qualified /validated according to NSA 307110 requirements.
Consumable Material List (CML) and NSA 307110 were updated to indicate this hydraulic fluid as an alternate fluid in the October 2010 revision.
RESTRICTIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS OF USE
Restrictions for A380, A350, A320NEO Family aircraft:
For A380, A350, A320NEO, it is forbidden to use high-density fluid Skydrol 500B-4.
All other type IV and V low-density fluids can be used, and mixed in any proportion (excepted Skydrol LD-4 for A350).
Type V fluids have been developed in the frame of new aircraft programs (A380, A350) with 5000psi hydraulic pressure. These fluids have enhanced properties leading to increased life limit. Therefore, even though type IV are allowed (with the exception of Skydrol 500B-4), type V ones should be preferred, and are recommended by Airbus. For information, A380 aircraft are delivered with type V fluid.
Notes:
For A320NEO family A/C, the use of Skydrol 500B-4 hydraulic fluid is forbidden. In case of suspected use of Skydrol 500B-4 on A320NEO family A/C, operators shall contact Airbus for further recommendations.For A350 Program, as a preventive measure, Hydraulic Fluid Skydrol LD-4 is banned on all A350 A/C as it can be an enabler for electro chemical erosion. Nevertheless, Airbus can allow A/C operation with a maximum
of 10% contamination with skydrol LD-4. If the quantity of Slydrol LD-4 in the Hydraulic system is greater than 10%, we advise Operators to contact Airbus for further advise. On an A350, 10% are equivalent to 27 liters for the green hydraulic system and 23 liters for the yellow hydraulic system.
For A300/310, A320CEO, A330/340 (CEO and NEO):
For A300/310, A320Fam, and A330/A340, all fluids mentioned in the table 1 can be used and mixed in any proportion.
However, the improvements brought by last fluid generation (Type V) could also be of benefit for all Airbus aircraft programs.
Skydrol 5: banned on Airbus Fleet
Skydrol 5 does not meet Airbus hydraulic fluid specification requirements and is not qualified to be used on Airbus A/C Hydraulic
Systems.
However, in order to avoid maintenance burden and possible AOG situations due to accidental in-service contamination of Airbus
A/C with Skydrol 5, an analysis has been performed by Airbus to determine the contamination limit of Skydrol 5 to allow on Airbus
A/C. Based on this analysis, the following allowance has been defined:
If Skydrol 5 quantity < 5%: continuous operation is acceptable without any repercussions.
HYDRAULIC FLUID MONITORING:
Hydraulic fluid condition is to be monitored on a periodical basis (dedicated MPD tasks) as per AMM 12-32-29 (for A300/310, A320 and A330/340 family aircraft) and AMM task 29-10-00-281-801A (for A380).
These procedures provide recommendations for taking fluid samples representative of hydraulic system conditions, and give contamination limits not to be exceeded.
In case of contamination:
- For A300/310, A320Fam, and A330/A340: AMM 12-36-29 details corrective actions,- For A380: AMM 29-11-00 pb301 and 29-13-00 pb301 details corrective actions.
Note: ISI article 29.00.00157 provides additional temporary authorizations.

SUMMARY:
This service letter informs operators of a new ExxonMobil hydraulic fluid formulation, HyJet V, which has been approved by Boeing and the FAA as a BMS3-11 Type V, Grade A and Grade C fluid. This fluid is now commercially available from ExxonMobil.
BACKGROUND:
Exxon Mobil has developed a new hydraulic fluid, HyJet V, which offers enhancements to existing HyJet fluids in the following areas:

• Improved thermal stability • Demonstrated pump and servo-valve operation and electro-chemical corrosion protection
in 275 degree F rig tests • Compatibility with all commercial Type IV and Type V fluids in all proportions
HyJet V also offers the same low density, the rust protection, and the viscometric balance at high and low temperature provided by HyJet IV-A Plus.

Boeing has approved ExxonMobil HyJet V as a BMS3-11 Type V, Grade A and Grade C fluid for use on all prior and current production Boeing airplanes. The reference b) QPL is attached. Approval for heritage McDonnell-Douglas airplanes is provided by the reference c) multi-model service letter.
SUPPLIER ACTION:
Exxon Mobil plans to continue production of HyJet IV-A Plus hydraulic fluid after the introduction of HyJet V.
SUGGESTED OPERATOR ACTION:
Boeing suggests that operators who wish to use HyJet V hydraulic fluid replenish their current fluid with HyJet V during normal servicing. If complete replacement of hydraulic fluid is desired, flushing procedures may be found in the maintenance manual for the appropriate airplane.
