Field trips and visiting experts help students explore how

inquiry units apply to real life.

Music class is an integral part of the TIS curriculum. Students learn technical skills as well as

improvisation and collaborative play. They develop a personal connection

to music, and learn skills which apply to other areas of life.”

Sakura Matsuri: Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival

Celebrating contemporary and traditional Japanese culture through student performances with help from our native-speaking staff.

Latino Festival: celebrating all Spanish speaking cultures

At each language track celebration, students demonstrate language and cultural understanding with plays,

dances, poetry and song.

5th Grade Capstone Trips AbroadFifth grade classes spend two

weeks in China, Japan or Mexico. The students live with host

families, attend a local school, and visit cultural and historical sites

they have studied in school.

Parents report that their children come back

standing taller, confident and ready to thrive in

middle school and beyond.

IB Exhibition: The culminating experience

Fifth grade students gather data on different aspects of

culture to compare their Capstone host countries with home. They research, analyze and present their findings to

the school community.

Children have fun discovering language and culture through hands-on

projects, stories, songs, games and outdoor fun.

Graduation: Watch out, world, here we come!

International School graduates are confident and capable in another

language and culture, with a strong foundation in math, science, social

studies and the arts.

They successfully go on to attend public and private middle schools,

high schools and universities around Oregon and beyond.
