I Need Tires!

Buying tires for any vehicle can be a hassle and a wallet killer for any vehicle. When looking at

truck tires the problems only get bigger along with the tire sizes. The last thing you want to do is

buy a set of four tires and shell out a ton of dough only to have your buddies laugh at you when you

tell them how much you spent!

In this report we’re going to go over a few tricks that can turn the tables in your favor! We’ll go

over Price Matching tricks, finding the mother lode of take off tires for new tires at used

prices, discuss clubs that have tire discounts and a the “fake club” trick, and finally we’ll

look at the right way to use classifieds to find the best tires money can buy for pennies on the

dollar.

So let’s jump right into it -

How To Get Online Prices Off l ine –Making Them Price Match

Most people know that you can get better prices on just about anything online. This drives offline

stores nuts because they have a hard time competing for your business and they’ll often be

desperate to get you in the door.

Tires are a little bit different because the store owners know that most people will pay a little bit

extra to have the added convenience of going into a local store to get the tires. In addition they

know that a tire is not something you can easily install for yourself so you’ll have to come to them

eventually anyway.

However some stores will still price match a shipped tire quote from online. Discount Tire will do

this at their stores. But what if you do not have a discount tire? What if you have a Discount Tire

near you but they don’t have the tires you want? What if the people at Discount Tire smell funny

and you don’t want to go there? (I mean whatever the reason... )

How can you get someone to price match an online price if that’s not their policy?

Do this –

Once you know the tires you want and you’ve found the best price online... call the local store and

ask them how much the tires cost at their store. When they tell you... hesitate for a minute and

then ask them how much they charge to install tires that you bring in. Let them know you found

the same tires online for xx dollars (mention the exact price... don’t just say “cheaper”).

A lot of times when you do this they will offer to match the price if you just come in and buy them

there. When you state the exact price you found them for online and where... they know you are

serious and are going to get the tires for sure.

You can even play it up by stating the website you found them on and ask if you can set up an

appointment to get them installed in a few days because you are going to order right when you hang

up. Or if you are in person pull up the site on your phone and look at the price while you are

having this conversation....

The more serious you appear the more likely they will try to win your business right then and there

by offering you a better price.

Take-Offs – Sniff ing Out The Stash

Another great way to get an AWESOME deal on tires is to buy factory take-offs. Take-offs are tires

that have been removed from a brand new vehicle so that the dealer can install a custom tire and

charge a higher price for the truck. Sometimes these tires have less than 50 miles on them but they

get sold at huge discounts because they are “used”.

The problem is that tire shops don’t usually have a big sign out front telling you that they have a

stash of take off tires waiting to sell. They’d rather you come in and buy brand new tires and save

the take offs for their friends and families. This is especially true for smaller stores that only have

take-offs when they sell a set of rims and tires to someone.

Do This -

What you want to do is find the tire stores that deal directly with the dealers. These guys have a

HUGE amount of take-offs and are ready and willing to cut you a good deal. And finding them is

actually pretty simple. Just go to the dealers and ask.

The dealers don’t mind hooking you up with which tire shops they work with because they can’t

make any money off of someone that’s just buying tires anyway. They’ll tell you what tire shops

they work with and then you can go direct to those shops and ask about their take-offs.

RV Clubs and the Fake Club Trick

Did you know that there are clubs out there that have set up discounts with tire dealers? For

example the Michelin Advantage program was started as a way for long haul 18 wheel truckers to

get better than dealer discounts on tires. But now the FMCA which is an RV club is also in on this

program. This means that if you are a member of that club you can get RV tires and EVEN light

truck tires for a huge discount.

This in and of itself if pretty cool and it’s worth checking around to see if there are any clubs you

can join that have a similar setup in place.

But what if you don’t have an RV and can’t find another club to join that would get you a hook up

on tires?

Do This –

Even without the benefit of an actual “club” you can often get a club like discount if you go in with

some friends to get tires at the same time.

A Group Buy will often net you a huge savings over retail. No buddies with trucks that want to go

in on a group buy? Check your local forums and see if anyone near you wants to get together for a

tire buy. With just a few people you can go to a tire store and have some leverage to get the best

deal possible. You’ll often see the equivalent of wholesale prices by using this trick because you’re

basically buying a wholesale quantity.

Classif ieds and Craigslist

Finally don’t overlook the simplicity of the local classifieds for a barely used set of tires. A lot of

people hear the word used and cringe at the thought of worn down tires and old dry rotted pieces

of rubber pulled from a junk yard.

What they don’t realize is that there are often some ridiculously great deals to be had on almost

new tires. Why?

Because you’ll find out if you look that there are a lot of kids out there that put rims on their trucks

and store their almost new tires at their parent’s house, or wreck their truck and need to part out

the almost new tires, etc etc.

You’ll be amazed at what can be had.

The one trick though is that you have to be fast to find the best deals. On Craigslist the best deals

are gone within hours of posting. That’s why if you just casually look at the site you won’t see the

deals I’m talking about. So what do you do? Surf Craigslist endlessly sacrificing your life for the sake

of a tire deal? NO

Do This –

Set up an RSS feed for the search you want on craigslist. Just go to Craigslist and perform the

search you want... for example “tires” in the section that is local to you.

Then after the results come up click the orange RSS button on the very bottom right hand side of

the page. This will create an RSS Feed for that search.

Then you can just use an rss reader to have that search show up in your gmail rss reader (just set up

a google account and use the rss reader) so that you can always check that search without having to

go to craigslist and search it.

If you want an even better way of doing this and you have a smartphone... there are a few apps that

will let you set up a search alert and have it sent to your phone.

That way when a killer deal on tires is posted on Craigslist you will be the first to see it. And first

come first serve... you will get the deal!
