Cut back on soda, sugar-sweetened tea,

fruit or sport drinks.

Sugary drinks are popular among both youth and adults. Types of sugary drinks are soda, fruit drinks, sports and energy drinks, and flavored milk. The sugar in these drinks can lead to cavities and

unhealthy weight gain. Sugary drinks are also high in sugar and calories, and low in nutrients. Maintain a healthy weight and smile. Replace these beverages with water and low fat, white milk.

Celery has a long fibrous stalk tapering into leaves. Their stalks can be eaten raw, used as an ingredient in salads, or as a flavoring in soups, stews, and pot roasts. A classic snack dish for kids would include “ants on a log”. This is a stalk of celery spread with either peanut butter or cream cheese then topped with raisins or craisins to look like the ants. Try making this fun snack at home!

Eliminate use of and exposure to

tobacco and nicotine products.

The tenth annual Tobacco Free Florida Week takes

place April 2-8, 2018. The theme is “Helping Every

Floridian Reach Their Fullest Health Potential”. Quitting tobacco is

one of the most difficult challenges. It is

also one of the most rewarding. Tobacco

Free Florida offers free tools and

services to help you or your loved one

get started. Quit Your Way at Tobacco

Free Florida.

Be physically

active at least

one hour every

day.

This spring, take more

time to appreciate the beauty of

nature around you. Instead of

staying inside all day, go outside.

Here are some fun, family-friendly

outdoor activities you can try:

• Go apple or berry picking

• Stargaze and name the

constellations

• Plant a vegetable garden

• Go for a hike or nature walk

• Build a sandcastle on the

beach

• Go for a bike ride

• Camp in the backyard

• Go swimming

• Fly a kite

Tips for Healthy Teeth:

• Reward your child with pencils, stickers, words of praise, or fun activities instead of food like cookies and candy, or sweetened drinks.

• Be a good role model. Let your child

see you drinking water, eating healthy snacks and brushing your teeth!
