• What you need:– RPG compiler

• not needed for SH15608/15636

– License keys (even if a stepping stone)

• Base and application keys

– Environments must be at certain PTF levels

– Applications must match (From and To)

– Backup, backup and backup (AMA, AMF)

Migration to XAR9.1 in detail

• Migrating– Requires FROM and TO env.

– Needs at least twice as much disk space

– Needs new license keys

– One migration PTF and client conversion

– New apps installed must be deactivated

• Changes in XAR9.1:– No more upgrade path, must use migration tool


• Run the initial install, back it up, run ACSAPPLY, back it up, next ACSAPPLY, back it up, next ACSAPPLY, back it up….keep going…. back it up

Ask yourself, where would I like to start my day from again?


• FROM environment PTF level prerequisite


• Installed applications and questionnaire responses must match as closely as possible


• Migration prerequisitesThe From environment must meet one of the following criteria:

– XAR6 at PTF level 5118 or higher

– XAR7 at PTF level 2581 through 7597 and is not at PTF level 9000 or higher

– XAR7.8 at PTF level 09955 or higher

• The To environment (XAR9.1) must be created from the initial install SH15630 with PTFs SH86808 and SH87069 appliedFrom installation guide:Verify that PTFs SH86808 and SH87069 were installed in the R9 environment. These PTFs are needed for the Migration Tool to complete normally.

• XAR9.1 Informational PTFs


RED ALERT:

After creating the XAR9.1 environment, copy the empty target environment using option AMZM70/01. The copy will be needed to rerun the migration at a later time.

• From SH15636:What you should know

Do not migrate data to a production environment. The migration tool is intended for migrating data from a production environment to a new environment.


• From SH15636:Prior to re-running the migration tool, you MUST delete the XAR9.1

environment containing migrated data and then copy the emptyenvironment created after installing the XAR9.1 environment:

– Log on to the empty copy of the XAR9.1 environment

– Use option AMZM70/03 to delete the XAR9.1 environment containing migrated data.

– Use option AMZM70/01 to recreate the XAR9.1 environment to where you will migrate data. Use the empty XAR9.1 environment as the source.

– Exit the empty XAR9.1 environment


• Question:What if I am not carrying over an application into XAR9.1?What if I am installing a new application in XAR9.1?

• Answer:Turn off the SYSCTL and APPTXT flags in the environment

• From SH15636:• Take option AMZM30/09 in the To environment and change the 'XB' record in the

SYSCTL file, as necessary, so that the SYSCTL reflects the same set of installed applications as in the From environment. In the 'XB' SYSCTL record, you will need to set the alphanumeric application install byte to blank for any application not installed in the From environment and you will need to set the numeric application install byte to '0'.

Perform these steps from a command line to correct the APPTXT file records: STEP 1. Sign on as QSECOFR. STEP 2. Execute a DFU against the APPTXT file in the …..


• Process to run the migration:1. Download the migration tool SH15636

2. Restore the library from the PTF

3. Key in the command

MIGTOOL/MIGTOOL

and enter in the requested information

• What to do before running the migration:1. Have a Backup

2. End/delete journaling

3. Triggers

XA Triggers will be removed during the Migration and will be added back when rerunning Install/Tailor after the migration

4. No locks on AMFLIB

5. Always sign off/on to clear library list

NOTE:

Triggers which are not defined in Trigger Program Control Maintenance (menu AMZM30, option 15) are not added back during tailoring.

If you have any user defined triggers and trigger programs, make sure they are in the library list before running tailoring


• Status screen: all files are being migrated


When the Migration Tool finishes, it will automatically:• print the "File Migration Report Listing" (MIGTOOL9P)

• copy the migration job log to the file MIGLOGxy (where xy is the TO environment) in library QGPL

So...If you are migrating to 9T, then the job log would be here:QGPL/MIGLOG9T

Use STRPDM, option 2 and enter in the parameters:

• Migration Tool Date

• SH15636 is a dynamic PTF– it may be updated if a change is necessary.

It’s a good idea to get the current version of this PTF. The changes are listed at the bottom of this cover letter...


• Migration Tool Date…would you use it?:


• Journaling not started in environments

• Verify that journaling has been started in both environments:

– WRKJRNA AMFLIBy/MPXJRN

y = the 2nd character of the environment ID

– The Journal State should be equal to ACTIVE

• If it is not ACTIVE, you must run options 1 & 2 on menu AMZMD0 in each environment to create and start journaling.


• Tip/Tricks – Once XAR9.1 is created: BACK IT UP

– If running multiple migrations, create another XAR9.1 environment by using CREATE ENVIRONMENT option from CAS

– Archive large history files (AP, AR, IM, COM, IFM)

– Reorganize the files

– Run a reclaim storage to free up disk space

The following applies to SH15608/SH15636 only

To speed up migration of some large files, a selected subset of files can be migrated concurrently, each in their own job

– List of supported files is in OBJPRE

– Need to set ZCONV data area position 176 to ‘1’

– Migration tool will ask the name of the job queue to submit those file migration jobs to.

• Avoid problems:– Sign on with a user profile with *ALLOBJ, *SECADM and *JOBCTL

special authorities.

– Delete all ABEND jobs from Job Status

– Rerun the install/tailor in the TO environment

– Print sample reports for comparison

– Read and then Reread the SH15636 document

– Review the Migration Tool Report for errors


• Overview:– The migration copies data from files in the FROM environment to files in

the TO environment

– If the required TO files are NOT in the TO environment, the migration will SKIP the files

– The migration will NOT create these files on the fly. The questionnaire creates these files.

– The migration WILL migrate user added files if they are in the FROM and TO environment.


• Upgrade options will be as follows:– Existing XAR6:

• Environment must be at PTF 5118 or higher

• Install XAR9.1, then run migration tool XAR6 to XAR9.1

– Existing XAR7:


• Install XAR9.1, then run migration tool XAR7 to XAR9.1

– Existing XAR7.8:


• Install XAR9.1, then run migration tool XAR7.8 to XAR9.1


• Migration to R9.1 on i6.1/i7.1 from R6/R7 on V5R4– E.g. upgrading to new hardware that only supports i6.1 and up

– Cannot run R6 lower than 8462 or R7 lower than 6638 on i6.1/i7.1

• To enable, PCM(s)s are needed to bring the environment up to the minimum level for i6.1 conversion, and the i6.1 conversion tool must be run

– Workaround

• Install R9.1 on i6.1/i7.1 box

• Restore AMFLIB/AMTLIB from source env (r6/r7) to i6.1/i7.1 box

• Create empty AMALIB for source env (R6/R7) on i6.1/i7.1 box

• Restore AMZPMD *DTAARA from source env (R6/R7)to AMALIB

• Add MMLIST record for the environment

• Run data migration tool


• A good migration is a prepared migration
