Thinking Big, Leading Change

TIP L/A Leader Development ProgramRecruitment Packet

Who We AreProject Tipping Point trains and supports new generations of engaged, civic-minded, socially innovative leaders with a passion for a better community and the wherewithal to get it done. Together we’ll not only usher in a new era of positive change to Lewiston-Auburn, we’ll create it.

What We DoTIP L/A LEADER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMThrough this 18-month program, 40 selected participants are led through experiential training in things such as case studies, community change strategies, and capacity building. We also offer supplemental professional services to either further participants’ learning or to help broaden their contribution. Based on scientifically proven theories and practices of social networking analysis and facilitative leadership, our goal is to weave a tighter network of individuals, as well as businesses, organizations, and their existing or emergent leaders.

PROJECT TIPPING POINT EVENTSProject Tipping Point will support and organize community-wide events, seminars, periodic conferences, outreach projects, and more—all in connection and collaboration with L/A businesses, employers, employees, non-profits, individuals, board members, students, neighborhood groups, immigrant and refugee populations, and anyone wanting to get involved and work to “TIP L/A.” Our goal is always to get ideas out there, to get people talking and working together, and to put the theories of positive change into practice.

Why We Do It We care about the community of Lewiston-Auburn. We live, work, and leisure here. We want to see it be the best version of itself that it can possibly be. But the old way of doing things has to change. We live in a world where using an antiquated playbook of “how things should be done” is obsolete. To empower change— real, true, positive, innovative change across all socio-economic and societal backgrounds—there needs to be a strong network of diverse individuals who are committed to working toward a common good and to bringing forth new, perhaps disruptive, ideas.

Project Tipping Point

Lewiston-Auburn is on the edge of something great. After years of decline from its manufacturing heyday, there is a bright future emerging in the new shops and restaurants, the self-organization of entrepreneurs and artisans promoting our downtowns, the return of the real estate market, and the young leaders stepping up to helm organizations and businesses.

Change in our communities is occurring faster than the structures, policies, and governance will support. We know some things aren’t working the way they are, and something about our current state is a barrier to the potential our future holds. We are at a tipping point, and through a tightened network of individuals who are leading collectively and are committed to L/A, we can tip our community toward a future everyone can be proud of.

The time is now. Become a Project Tipping Point

TIP L/A Leader.

Components of Learning:

Group learning occurs in a mix of large groups and 4 small cohorts that meet for 9 sessions over an 18-month time period.

Regular coaching will support knowledge transfer from the learning environment to the working environment, helping leaders apply the learning, problem solve, and integrate new behaviors and skills into everyday aspects of paid and volunteer work.

A half-day workshop will be designed between Project Tipping Point, the TIP L/A Leader, and an affiliated group, at no cost. Providing an opportunity to use developed planning and facilitation skills, the leader will co-create the session intended to support real-time problem solving and integrate learning in the leader’s daily environment.

Regular social gatherings will be hosted to create and strengthen relationships and share the experience to individuals’ extended networks.

Community-based projects provide the opportunity to practice learning and hone skills while contributing to Lewiston-Auburn in tangible ways.
