I would like to officially welcome Miss Cubis into the executive team at ECS, who will be taking on the role as the Relieving Assistant Principal Primary for the remainder of Term 3. Sickness at ECS! There have been a lot of different illnesses going around Emmaville and surrounding areas. Can I please remind parents that if your child is sick, they should be staying at home to rest where possible and to minimise the spread of infectious diseases. A medical certificate should be sought. A reminder to check on the status of your child’s immunisations to ensure they are up to date. Mrs Sullivan Relieving Principal SECONDARY NEWS Last week students in Years 10 and 11 attended a driver safety day, “Don’t be a statistic”, in Inverell. The excursion gave students a better understanding of driver safety and the risks for young drivers and passengers. Representatives from the ambulance, police, and Hunter New England Health-Brain Injury Unit spoke to students about risk and consequence of being a road user. Students were also offered sound advice about staying safe as they transition to having their P plates and start travelling with their friends. Students got a real insight into what happens at an accident scene as they watched a motor vehicle accident scenario involving the Inverell VRA and emergency services. The school heavily subsidised the excursion to enable students to participate in the important day. Subject Selection Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 will soon be given information regarding subject selection for 2019. Students in Years 8 and 9 will be asked to select three elective subjects to study. For the first time, our student enrolment is so healthy that we will need to cap classes. Subjects will be offered on a first in best dressed basis. Meanwhile students in Year 10 have many decisions to make regarding their transition to Year 11. Students are able to choose their own pattern of study, with English being the only compulsory subject (as mandated by NSW Education Standards Authority). Parents will be invited to an information session, regarding subject selection, later this term. Reading at home I cannot stress the importance of encouraging your child to read at home. Reading is not only imperative to education but is an important life skill. Reading assists children to develop their comprehension skills but is also crucial to developing their language use and their own writing. Often, finding a book that a child gets ‘hooked on’ is the key. If you’d like any assistance in finding a suitable book, or ideas on how to encourage your child to read, please contact me at the school. Miss Rebecca Grant Head Teacher- Secondary Studies

PRIMARY NEWS Education Week- Primary Last week, the students at Emmaville Central School celebrated Education Week with a lot of fun activities. On Wednesday the 8th of August, we had a special assembly and barbeque, where parents and families were invited to join in and acknowledge the good work students have been doing. On Thursday the 9th of August everyone dressed up as their favourite book character. Then in the afternoon Primary students participated in activities with parents, grandparents and friends. The K-1-2 class planted seeds. Then, Aila showed her mum all her excellent work in class, Lilly read a picture book to her mum and Harrison played widgets with his mum. Emily and Miss Lanz had fun with the tessellating shapes.

The 3-4 class created a wreath with theirs and parent’s hands. They also did a review on their favourite book. The 5-6 students created a poster in their class with grandparents, parents and friends. We all had a great time. Karley enjoyed the parents coming in, Ethan liked dressing up Sherlock Homes and Courtney enjoyed spending time colouring with her nan. We would like to thank the Primary teachers for running the book fair, we all had so much fun looking at the books and buying some new ones to take home. By Ethan and Alison.

K/1/2 Class Report This term K1/2 have been learning about many wonderful things such as a unit called Paddock to Plate and learning different Tennis skills in Sport. When asked about what they have been doing this Term, students said they have been enjoying weaving in Visual Art with Miss Lanz. When Xander and I asked the students what they have enjoyed, they said they liked Visual Art the best. Alex said it was because she likes the colourful scenes, whereas Stacy likes being creative and Alia said she always feels happy when she does Visual Arts with Miss Lanz. Featured are some pictures with some students and the artworks they have completed this term. Written by Xander and Courtney
