Tools throughout our history

IntroductionOur ancestors from the past used

and made tools to help their living better and safer. Hominids from the past used and made tools for hunting, getting food, protection, storage, and whole lot more things that are part of their and our life. Things they made are huge evolution of human history like spear, stone knives, baskets made out of bamboos, plow for farming……et

Australopithecus afarensis

DID NOT HUNT!They USED found tools like using

a branch to reach up for berriesThey are gatherers. They gather

berries, nuts, fruits….. and more things.

At the time when these hominids exists they haven't made tools for hunting. They eat meat that are found left over and ROT.

Homo habilis

They started to make easy tools. The Homo habilis did not make

fire, but they know how to use fire from forest fire, dry season fire in the great pasture of Africa.

Homo habilis use branches as a tool to make crude shelters.

Forest fire

Homo erectus They mean standing upright hominidsMake more complicated toolsBang stone on other stone to make a

sharp end( one of the ways of making their tools)

They did hunt, but very easy hunts First proof of hominids leaving Africa

to other places because they know how to make fire

Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis

They are found in the Neanderthal valley, Germany

Make complicated tools that needs lots of work

Stone knives, spears, harpoon…Build shelters and other more

complex structures from branches, tree, and other materials.

Homo sapiens Cro-MagnonFound in the valley of Cro-Magnon,

FranceAble to hunt as a group and larger

animals( mammoth, saber tooth…) because their brain eventually grew bigger and smarter as the evolution goes on

Did not farm(hunting and gathering)Used antlers to make fish hooks and

needles for sowing.

Homo sapiens sapiens

During this age, people discovered a thing that involves one of the biggest human evolution : FARMING!

Homo sapiens sapiens make their tool precisely, and with exquisite decorations

Baskets: people at that time started to make baskets out of reeds and animal skins. One of the reason is their brain got very smart to do those “need thinking” and complicated work. Also, they need them for string crops.

How did we extend the ways of using those tools?

Throughout the time as human keep on evolving, we keep making tools that are too complicated than people from the past can even imagine like computers, spaceships, communication devices….et

-In the past, farmers let cows tow the plough to plant seeds, but now we invented machine tractors on the fields instead of cows and ploughs. They are using the same idea but more convenient and efficient .

- Hominids from thousands of years ago made stone knives out of banged together stones. In the ancient civilization, people made the old fashioned sheath knives that or stored in sheaths. Now we invented knives that the blade can be folded into the handle and put it in the pocket. As human get smarter and smarter, there are even switch blades that you can just press a button and the blade will swing out by itself.
