Always enter the homework thatyouhavebeensetandwhenitisdue in.

Be Prepared:• Startthedayasyoumeantogoon:bepoliteandrespectfulofothers.• Makeaquickstarttothelesson,withcoatsoffandbagsonthefloor.• Bringallequipmentyouneedfortheday.• Makesureyourplannerisorganised,recordingallhomework(orwriting“noneset”).• Meetdeadlineswithallyourhomeworkandcoursework.• Aimfor100%attendanceandbeontimetoalllessons.Ifyourattendancedropsbelow 80%youcanexpecttheEducationalWelfareOfficertobeaskingyourselfandyour parents/carers why this is. This person has the right to prosecute parents/carers if theythinkthereisnogoodreasonwhyyourattendanceissolow.Absencesshouldbe explainedbyeitheraletteroranoteintherelevantpartofyourplanner.However,good attendance (95% or more) will place you in the draw for termly and end of year prizes.• Theschoolwillacceptnoresponsibilityformobilephones.Theywillbeconfiscatedif inappropriately used during the school day.• Inappropriateitemssuchaschewinggum,personalstereos,iPods,mp3playersand liquidpapermustnotbebroughtintoschool.Anyinappropriateitemsthatarebrought intoschoolwillbeconfiscated.• Offensiveweaponssuchasknives(nomatterhowlongtheblade)orlaserpensmust notbebroughtintoschool.Possessionofanoffensiveweaponinschoolmayresultina permanent exclusion.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY
Assoonasschoolstartsonthefirstbellat8.45am,allphonesmustbeturnedoffandplacedineithertheblazerpocketorinthestudents’bag.Phonescanbeusedbeforeschoolstartsbutoncelearninghasbegun(thestartoftheschooldaysignifiedbythe8.45ambell)theymustnotbeseenoutofeitherthepocketorbag.Ifphonesareseenoutduringlessontime(learningtime)withouttheteachers’permissiontheywillbeimmediatelyconfiscatedandsenttoStudentServices.Phoneswillbereturnedtostudentsat3.20pmviaStudentServices. Persistent offenders: parents will be contacted and asked to collect the phone at their earliest convenience.Mobilesshouldnotbeusedatsocialtimes(unlessspecificpermissionhasbeengivenwithintheyeargroupzones)orinbetweenlessons.Ifamobilephoneisbeingusedatbreaktime/lunchtime/inbetweenlessonsthentheuniformcardwillbesigned.Iftheuniformcardiscompletedwith5‘mobilephoneissues’thenthephonewillbeconfiscated.Phoneswillbereturned to students at 3.20pm via Student Services. SANCTIONSThese are the opposite of rewards. When you do not meet our Wilmslow Way expectations youwillhavepointsdeductedforthefollowingkindofthings(thereareothers): - Poor attitude - Disrupting lessons - Bullying - Threateningbehaviour - Persistent failure to follow instructions - Discourtesy to staff - Truancy - Persistent uniform issues - Vandalism - LackofhomeworkSomeunacceptablebehaviourswillleadtoothersanctions,orconsequencesi.eitwillinvolvemorethanjustlosingWilmslowWaypoints.
• Loworder(orLevel1-learningorbehaviour)incidentssuchasdiscourtesytostaff, lateness, failure to follow an instruction will result in the first instance in a 15 minute referral,usingthewholeschoolreferralroom,(runatbreak,lunchandafterschool). Yourparentsmayalsobeinformedviaatextmessage.Ifyoufailtoturnuptothewhole school referral you will then receive a 30 minute Student Services detention. Persistent offenceswillalsoinvolvebeingputina30or50minutereferral.Youmightalsobeput on report. This is a report card that you will give to your teachers at the start of each lesson.Itwillhavetargetsforyoutotryandreach.Eachsubjectteacherthroughoutthe daywilljudgewhetheryouhavemet(ornot)thosetargets.
• Moreseriousincidents(Level2)arethingssuchasfailingtoimprovethroughcurriculum teamstrategies,disruptivebehaviour,unpleasantand/oraggressiveattitude,bad language,defiance(refusingtofollowinstructions)andsmoking.Theywillresultin50 minutedetentionsinroom122,parents/carersinformedandbeingputonreportto monitorbehaviour.Whereitisclassedasaseriousincident,commentsdetailingthe offencewillbeloggedonSIMSbytheteacher/tutor.Failuretoattendthesesanctionswill result in your Head of House putting you in a referral to complete learning activities.
• Themostseriousoffences(atLevel3)arethingssuchasfighting,bringinganoffensive weaponintoschool,bullying,racism,badlanguagetoamemberofstaffanddrugabuse. The“on-call”willprobablybeinvolvediftheincidenttakesplaceduringlessontimes. Malpractice
Important information for students taking examinations
Malpracticeistheofficialwordforcheatinginexaminations,courseworkorotherassessments.
Thesethingsareformsofmalpracticeandwillbetakenveryseriously:
• Collusion – when the work of several people is submitted as though it were one student’s work.Forexampleifagroupofstudentsworktogetheronaprojectwhichisthensubmittedasonestudent’scoursework,orifatutororrelativehelpsastudenttowriteanessaywhichisthensubmittedasthestudent’sownwork.
• copying or plagiarism (including the use of Ict to aid copying). Plagiarismiswhenstudentscopytheworkofotherpeopleandpassitoff
as their own. There is a particular danger of doing this through copying and pasting text into an essay and not clearly stating where the text came from and whowroteit.Alwaysbecarefultosaywhoseworkyouarequoting,anddon’tpretenditisyourswhenitisnot.Whenyouuseotherpeople’swords,alwaysputtheminside“quotes”.
• Bringing a mobile phone or other device into an examination. Whetherornotthephoneisusedforcheating,havingaphoneinyourpocket
orbagduringanexaminationisconsideredmalpracticeandwillresultinseriousconsequences.AstudentatthisschooloncehadaGCSEwithdrawnbecausetheyhadamobilephonewiththemintheexaminationroom.
• Fabrication of results or evidence. Youmightthinkthatthereisnowayanyonecouldknowthatyoumadeupthe
resultsofyoursurveyorexperiment,butinfactitisoftenquiteobvious.Ifyouare not using genuine results that you have collected you must say so, and ifyouareusingsomeoneelse’sdatayoumustmakeitclearwherethatdatacame from and who collected it.
• Impersonation by pretending to be someone else in order to produce the work for another or arranging for another person to take your place in an assessment/examination/test.
This is not an exhaustive list: any activity that gives you an unfair advantage over other studentscanbeconsideredseriousenoughforustoreportittotheexaminingbody.Theconsequencesofmalpracticecanrangefromaparticularpieceofworknotbeingacceptedbyateacher,tohavingall your qualifications cancelled bytheexaminingbody.Theschoolisobligedtoreportseriousincidentsof malpractice and, in extreme cases, could permanently exclude students who cheat.

Apostrophes!
If there is just one owner (singular), you just add 's to show who the owner is.
You can use me to show ownership...
...the girl's pet rabbit
If there is more than one owner (plural), and the word ends in s, add the apostrophe after...
...the girls' school
...but if there is more than one owner (plural), and the word doesn't end in s, then add 's.
...the men's football team
...and you can use me to show contractions...
An apostrophe is also used to show when two words
have been contracted (put together and shortened). It shows the missing letters.
