• She is the daughter of Fransisca Llona Barros and Tomás Allende, who was the Chilean ambassador of Peru.

The House of Spirits is Isabel Allende’s first book published. She wrote it when she heard about her grandfather dying. The story is about three generations of the Trueba family of Chile. It became an instant bestseller when published in 1982.
