Telefónica (Compañía Telefónica Nacional de España, CTNE) is founded. The International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (ITT) is one of its first shareholders.
Telefónica moves its headquarters into the emblematic new Gran Vía 28 building. It’s the tallest building in Europe.
The Spanish state nationalises 79.6% of Telefónica’s shares.
Spain can now communicate with 107 countries.
The start of satellite communications. Telefónica opens a land communications station in Buitrago de Lozoya in Madrid.
The landline network in Spain reaches 5 million households. Telefónica opens the first Special Network for Data Transmission in Europe.
