Time to Talk Future of Waste.Welcome! The way we sort and manage our waste in Edmonton will be changing. Everyone has a role to play in managing Edmonton’s waste to ensure a clean, sustainable future for our City.

Waste Services is asking residents and stakeholders to help shape a new waste strategy for Edmonton, which will inform some of the proposed program and collection service changes.
We want to hear your thoughts about the future of waste in our City, as we work together to achieve our residential waste diversion goals.

How To Participate

Spring 2019 Test Phase for Green Carts and Waste Collection Changes
2020 and Beyond Begin Rollout of Future Changes
April 2018 Residential Grass and Yard Waste (engagement completed)
February - April 2019 Phase 2 Engagement Validation and implementation of ideas. Validating information gathered in Phase One by asking, “Does this resonate? What did we miss?” Gathering ideas and feedback for implementation and rollout of possible changes.
October - November 2018 Phase 1 Engagement
Exploration and inquiry. Identification of challenges, opportunities, needs and preferences. Gathering public input across multiple sectors on several waste reduction and diversion (waste sorting) topics.

Changes to Grass, Leaf and Yard Waste Collection+ Grass clippings will no longer be collected in weekly garbage collection at the curb.
+ Seasonal leaf and yard waste will be collected at the curb once in the spring and once in the fall.
+ 2019 - Introduction (no Bylaw changes) + 2020 - Full Implementation (Bylaw changes)
DISPOSAL OPTIONS
+ Grass clippings can be left on the lawn.
+ Grass clippings, leaf and yard waste can be dropped off at Eco Stations and Big Bin Events for no charge starting in 2019.
