Seniors tour Perth’s Christmas Lights Take in the sights from Kings Park, enjoy a tour through the City of Perth and walk through the City centre to see the new Christmas decorations. Date: Thursday 11 December Time: Depart 5pm, return 10.30pm Venue: Meet at the Addie Mills Centre 2 Astley Street, Gosnells The event costs $20 and includes a light dinner. Bookings are essential. New funding for Operation Bounceback The City has received funding from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council to commence Operation Bounce Back in Gosnells. Operation Bounce Back, an initiative of the City and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, aims to make owners more aware of how they can reduce the risk of their vehicles being stolen. With advances in security technology making it impossible to hot wire late model cars, offenders have shifted towards home burglaries to access keys for secure vehicles. There were 267 car thefts in the City of Gosnells last financial year. Residents are advised not to leave keys in plain view at home or hide spare keys in your car. For more information on this project visit the City’s website. DRAFT LOCAL PLANNING POLICIES – MADDINGTON TOWN CENTRE DEVELOPMENT AND CENTRAL MADDINGTON OUTLINE DEVELOPMENT PLAN AREA Council is seeking comment on the above mentioned policies. The purpose of the draft policies is to provide guidance for the assessment and determination of subdivision and development applications on land in the respective areas. Submissions close: Friday 5 December PROPOSED CLOSURE BY WAY OF AMALGAMATION OF PUBLIC ACCESS WAY – LUTZ COURT, GOSNELLS Following an approach by an adjacent land owner, the City is considering requesting that the Minister for Lands close the Pedestrian Accessway described as Lot 56 on Diagram 32476 and consider for amalgamation with the adjoining road reserve pursuant to Section 56 of the Land Administration Act (1997). Submissions close: Friday 12 December Enquiries should be directed to the Planning Implementation branch on 9397 3172. Public Notice Writing workshop for next Artist Lounge Interested in writing a novel or play for the stage or screen? The City is hosting a full day workshop at Liddelow Homestead on Saturday 29 November to help budding writers create authentic characters that help to tell a vivid story. Professional writer John Harman will give participants tips on how to carve out a character that will keep readers or audiences interested. Harman has taught creative writing skills at universities all over the world and has worked as a copywriter in advertising, as well as a documentary script writer and author of popular novels. Writers of all levels are welcome to attend this workshop. Registration is essential, as numbers are limited. The event costs $20 and includes lunch. Students pay attention to road safety message The City’s Road Safety officers will visit Southern River College on Wednesday 19 November to raise awareness of road safety issues and commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The visit will focus on this year’s message of ‘Driver Distraction’, urging drivers not to be tempted to talk or text on mobile phones while driving. Keynote speaker Symon Still will address the students and give his chilling first hand account of how an inattentive driver changed his life. You can support World Day of Remembrance by wearing a grey Road Ribbon, available for free at the City’s Civic Centre and local libraries.
