On Maker Sankranti, when all schools and offices in Delhi were closed, my office was open. On my drive to office, I noticed that almost all roads were empty. That was the moment when I felt like the boss of Delhi’s roads. It’s well said that taking things in a positive manner makes our life full of enthusiasm. Purnima Thakur Dear Diary, Recently, I had to go to the court to submit an important affidavit. As my council was busy elsewhere, I had to do the needful on my own. But the chaotic state of that court appaled me. It is really a task to hunt for the affidavit paper, from gettting it typed to getting it attested from the notary. Now, I could run around and get the task done, but not without the ‘price’. I don’t mind shelling out money for the right reasons, but to be harrased is something I detest. From buying out the stamp paper, to getting it typed, and then getting it signed by the notary, everything has a price to it. And the best part is you can’t argue with anyone or even think of ‘negotiating’. The work, which can be finished in an hour’s time, took me at least three hours. Coming back from the court, I called up my lawyer and had an argument with him that what was the use of paying him so much if he had no con- cern for me and my case. The fest featured JDMC’s annual competitive events - Let’s Dance (free style solo dance), Munadi (street play), Euphonie (Western music competition) and Footloose (group dance). The two day festival saw participation from colleges across Delhi University. The most sought after event of the festival was the rock show, which saw a performance by singer Harshdeep Kaur, who entertained the audience with her hit numbers such as Katiya Karoon from Rockstar and Jhak Maarke from Desi Boys. “It’s a good place to come together, as college life is a thing you miss your entire life,” says Kaur, who also graduated from an all girls college. There was some food for thought too, as the inter- college debate com- petition saw teams from 25 colleges debate on the topic — ‘The huge box office success of bold Indian films indicate a rejection of traditional values by Indian audiences’. In the freestyle solo dance competition, participants exhibited various styles of dance forms, such as, contemporary, fusion, freestyle and hip-hop. There was a cause attached with the festivities too. A special event - Turning Disability Into Ability - was held for differently abled students to showcase their singing prowess. It saw participation by students from Indraprastha College for Women, Kirori Mal College, Hansraj College and Hindu College. The melodies of musical instruments such as piano, guitar, drums, harmoni- um, morchang, algoja, khurtal, dholak, bhapang, kamaicha and majira will merge to create a medley of rich folk, tribal and world music.
