The term of mud, colds, lost jumpers and of course great learning! Our students are expected to make sensible choices about where and what they play while they are at school. This term is always one that tests their developing common sense, with so many potential tempting mud and slide areas around our yard. While teachers make suggestions and discuss suitable activities we do find, from time to time, that some students require stricter boundaries such as “No grass areas” to help them remain classroom ready. If, by chance, your child makes a choice that impacts on their ability to work in a classroom then you can expect a phone call asking you to bring up a change of clothes. Over the holidays we had a number of trees removed following damage from the strong winds. During severe weather conditions we supervise students inside over play and lunch times rather than exposing them to the cold conditions. However, on most days outside play is possible. It does make for lots of misplaced jumpers though, as students are warm inside and colder out. PLEASE make sure your child’s jumper is CLEARLY NAMED. We are still waiting on many families to sign up for the Religious Instruction Program that is offered in our school by Access Ministries and the local Catholic Parish. I will wait until next Tuesday and then use the available information to make a decision about the continuance of this program here at Timboon. Prior to the Government changes to this program we had 89% of our primary students choosing to take part. This decision was made when filling out your enrolment pack. With the changes in Government policy it is now a requirement that parents opt in to the program each year. At this stage just 60% of children have returned forms indicating they will continue in the program. If you have yet to fill in your form but intend to please do so (using the form on this newsletter or on the school web page) and return it so school by Monday 21

st July.

We have needed to make adjustments to our staff profile due to illness and long service leave. For this term Mr Haugh will be acting Assistant Principal 7-12 and over in the high school area. Our P-6 PE and music will be taken by Mrs Sally Partridge and our 3-6 Art will be taken by Mr Charlie Packett and our oral language program is now being supported Miss Jessica Gaut. We wish our staff speedy recoveries and happy vacations as the case may be. ANDREA TAYLOR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Friday Night Rock Climbing.

We will be running several Friday night indoor rock climbing trips during Term 3 as we have done in previous years. The cost will be a minimum covering a school discounted entry to “The Rock” indoor rock climbing centre in Geelong and 20 seater bus hire. The school can supply harnesses and may be able to supply climbing shoes, depending on size. Last year the cost was $35 per person. It may be possible for parent volunteers, particularly females, to come as a member of staff. These are trips for students who enjoyed the rock climbing on the year 9 camps and would like to do more. These trips were originally an extension to our year 9 program but they are in no way compulsory. Other students and/or parents who would like to try indoor rock climbing are encouraged to come along and would be welcome. Younger students would need to come with an older sibling or parent who is prepared to belay them. Places are limited on the bus so it will be first in best dressed. The bus will leave Timboon as soon as practical after the school buses about 3:40 pm. We will stop at Waurn Ponds where a variety of takeaway franchises are available for an early tea. We climb from about 6 to 8:30 pm, and return to Timboon about 10:30 pm. The proposed dates at this stage are Friday 25th of July Friday 8th of August Friday 22nd of August

Friday 12th of September Bouldering Competition? Please give your name to Mr Graesser if you are interested.

Vietnam Study Tour 2014 What an amazing experience it was! We would like to invite all participants and their families and any other interested people to come and view the great photos, and relive moments of the trip. You are invited to come to the Library Theatre at 4pm on Wednesday 23

rd July. Looking forward to getting our group back

together! – Kayleen Deppeler
