What are Warrant Articles 6 and 7?Warrant Article 6 asks voters to approve a contract for the

paraeducators of our Timberlane Regional School District. Warrant

Article 7 allows for one special town meeting in the event this contract

is defeated. We ask you to vote YES on both warrant articles.

Who is the Timberlane Support Staff Union? The TSSU represents approximately 160 full-time and part-time

paraeducators in our district who work in a variety of job classications:

educational assistant, ISAAC, library assistant, licensed nursing assistant,

special education assistant, tutor, tutor 1:1, tutor 1:1 (asst. teacher),

    tutor-ASD and tutor-EH.

What is the work of a paraeducator?

If youre a parent, youve probably seen paraeducators at work in yourchilds classroom or school. Paraeducators are a key part of the

educational team in your school. They assist teachers in the classroom,

to ensure all children get the instructional help and services they need.

Many work directly with students with special needs. The range of work

they do to meet the requirements of individual education plans for

children can be quite diverse and challengingyet very rewarding.

What does the new paraeducators contract include? The one-year contract includes only a small wage increase for

paraeducatorsan averageincrease of only 30 cents an

hour. This increase is based on

moving a step on the existing pay

    schedule for completing a year

    of service. The wage schedule

has also been streamlined, to the

benet of the school district. No

    across the board cost-of-living

    increase (COLA) is included in

this contract. To put it in context:Yearly salaries for paraeducators

Warrant Articles 6 and 7: Why voting yes protects a quality education for our kids

    in our district average about

    $16,000. The modest wage

    increase makes up only a

    small portion of the money

for the new contractonly$49,969. Most paraeducators

    acquire specialized train-

    ing and certication to do

their jobs. They make a big

    difference every day in our

    schoolsyet theyre among

the lowest-paid school staff in our district.

If the wage increase is small, what accounts for the

other money in this Warrant Article?

The Warrant reects insurance expenses to comply with the Affordable

Care Act. The insurance amount is to offer a high-deductible single plan

to paraeducators who are not enrolled in a health care plan. That

money is there to avoid penalties to our school district under the law.

This plan would comply with the ACAs requirements.

Why is it important to vote yes on Warrant Article 6?

Paraeducators help make sure our schools can meet the individualneeds of every child. We need to make our district a place that can

attract and keep these key members of the school team!

Why is Warrant 6 important for our local economyand for New Hampshire working families?

Paraeducators are our friends, family, and neighbors. Most live right here

in our district, and many have kids in our schools. Ensuring that they can

give their families a decent standard of living is not only the right thing

to doits also an investment in our local economy and our childrenseducational success.
