rica, and legal men in both countries haveexpressed admiration with their soundnessand justice. We trust that the new bench willonly add to the fame of Hawaii, and that when

each member retires, it may be with the re-

spect, love and veneration which Chief JusticeAllen carries with him.

Tus question of steam or no steam betweenthis port and San Francisco very naturallyattracts the attention of the public, as even a

temporary interruption of it would prove aninconvenience, especially to travelers. We donot believe that we shall be left without steamservice of some kind ; but those who thinkthat there are firms in San Francisco ready to

step in and serve our wants, are very muchmistakes. No parties in that port or elsewherewill establish steam service with us for doubleor eren treble the sum for which the wealthyPacific Mail Corporation offers to do it. ferring lo cues in which foreigners bave beenpartiu, and who bAvo had a tiual judgment

in this Court. In sumo of lhe,e tho diplouxaliagents bav alleged a donial of justice, and havoreferred tbe decisions of the Court to their owaGovernment. In theso cases there baa been no ex-pression of disapproval by tho Goverumout represen-ted by these gentlemen. It is in questions of thischaracter that tbe Government is diroutly interestedin tbo administration uf the law, and in tbe reputa-tion and character of Ibe Court.
