Tilonia Tilonia is a village near Jaipur that is internationally known as the address of the Barefoot College, established in 1972 by the social activist duo Aruna and Bunker Roy. It has several high-profile patrons including the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, who has also visited this centre. The College helps locals find solutions to problems from within the community in the areas of water, solar energy, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people’s action, women’s empowerment and sanitation etc. A visit to its campus in Tilonia, is an uplifting experience.
With little guidance, encouragement and space to grow and exhibit their talent and abilities, the ordinary village people are doing extraordinary things that defy description.
Jaipur Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is also known as the Pink city. It is a royal city with its fairy-tale palaces and rugged fortresses. Jaipur crafts, especially lacquer bangles and fabrics are famous all over the world. The magnificent forts, beautiful havelis and colorful bazaars make Jaipur a popular tourist destination.
Jaipur, (City of Victory) was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It became the first planned city of India, which was designed by the brilliant Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. The city was planned on the edicts of the ancient Hindu treatise on Indian architecture, Shilpa Shastra. Today Jaipur is a modern and bustling city where tradition and modernity co-exist in peaceful harmony.
