The Summit Tiger Shark XR (Extended Range) pump stages incorpo-rate innovative hydraulic design concepts, with wide mixed flow vanes andgreater operating ranges designed specifically to handle rapid declining, sandy,and gassy wells typical of today’s dynamic unconventional vertical and horizon-tal drilled shale plays across North America.

The Tiger Shark XR stages incorporate an abrasion resistant flanged insertdesign that absorbs downthrust produced by the stages in the pump rather thanthe seal. The XR design eliminates the need for compression pumps whichrequire time-consuming precise field shimming. Imprecise shimming can potentially lead to short run times due to human errors as each connectionrequires accurately measured, calculated and performed shimming.

The Tiger Shark XRD (Extended Range Defender) stages incorporate apatented flange insert design engineered to extend run life. The Tiger Sharkflange sleeve incorporates a diagonal axial groove connected to the radialgroove on the bushing. This innovation is designed to move the sand particlesthrough the insert. The result is that the sand particles are kept away frominternal critical clearance areas where damage can occur and avoids unimpededrecirculation.

Summit ESP’s Tiger Shark XR and XRD 320 has a low end operatingrange of less than 25 barrels per day and a high end operating range of 460barrels per day. The Tiger Shark XR 1000 and XRD 1000 has a low end operating range of 200 barrels per day while offering a high end operatingrange of 1,650 barrels per day. Additional Summit Tiger Shark XR and XRDstages will overlap production ranges up to 30,200 barrels per day. The broadefficient operating ranges of the Tiger Shark XR pumps allow the operator tomaintain maximum production without the high costs associated with systemchange outs and nonproductive time as the well productivity declines.

A properly designed system by experienced Summit ESP application engineers can handle changing conditions during the life of the well, even possibly eliminating the switch over to beam lift as the rate falls below legacyelectrical submersible pump applications. Summit ESP’s line of proprietary gashandlers, Tiger Shark XRGH, can be run in conjunction with Summit Tiger SharkXR pumps and Summit Liberator gas separators. The gas handler pump stageswith patent-pending hydraulic vane configurations can handle up to 60% freegas in fluid volumes from less than 25 barrels per day and up to 9,000 barrelsper day. Adding Summit ESP’s new line of Corsair Motors allows the operatorto expect and receive better runtimes through reduced vibration, improved sealing and better dielectric strength.
