RISE UP! From the Office Grandfriends Enjoy SJCS On Friday, SJCS opened its campus to friends and family members for our annual Grandfriends Day celebration. Those in attendance were treated to performances and displays of student work during a morning assembly that showcased the powerful results of church, home, and school partnering together in the education of our children. After the assembly, parents and Grandfriends made their way to various classrooms to observe and participate in special activities before enjoying lunch to- gether on the playground. As always, Grandfriends Day brings a unique warmth to campus that embodies the wonderful community in which we all share. Thank you all for being a part of our special day. Field Day Fun Another annual tradition at SJCS is our Field Day activities, which take place on the af- ternoon of Grandfriends Day. The 1 st – 8 th grade students are assigned to 10 different teams, each with their own color, for the competition. The teams then race against each other in a variety of relays or puzzle games, before closing out with the Tug of War competition. Mrs. Baham’s white team took home 1 st place honors this year, including the championship of the Tug of War. After all the student competitions were over, the faculty battled the 8 th grade class in a final Tug of War challenge, where—after several years of shameful defeats—the teachers were able to reclaim victory this year and restore their honor! Field Day is always a fun time, and judging by the alumni comments on the SJCS face- book page, it’s something our students won’t soon forget! Association Meeting Tonight All members of the SJCS Association are reminded that tonight is the annual busi- ness meeting in the Auditorium at 7pm. Everyone should have received the infor- mation for the meeting via email in ad- vance, which includes short biographies on the three nominees for trustee positions on the SJCS School Board. If you aren’t able to attend, you may turn in an absen- tee ballot to the office, or you may use the online link provided in the association email to cast your vote. If you haven’t paid your dues yet, please bring those to the meeting as well. See you there! End-of-Year Bowling Party During the afternoon of the last day of school (June 6), 1 st – 7 th graders will attend the end-of-year bowling party at San Jose 300. The event is optional for 8 th graders. In the next week or two, you will be re- ceiving an online permission form that will also ask you whether or not you can serve as a driver for the event. Keep your eyes out for that form and for more information on the bowling party in upcoming Tiger Tracks. Spirit Week 2013 Students had a great time last week par- ticipating in Spirit Week 2013.
