President’s Message
Hope everyone has recovered from our “Atlanta Snow
Storm”.
We really do it up when we
have a snow storm don’t we?
Looking forward to seeing lots of you at our February Cruise/
Meeting to Jasper.
The meeting place for the
Jasper cruise is Andretti’s in Roswell (site of last month’s
meeting).
We are meeting at 9am.
Meetings VP Mike Walling is our contact person for the
cruise.
Come even if you don’t want
to drive.
It’s more fun riding 2 or 3 to a
car and getting to know other members anyway.
John Link
Polar Bear Cruise
February 8, 2014
From: Mike Walling
Meeting Time: 9am
Meeting Place: Andretti’s / 11000 Alpharetta Hwy, Roswell, GA
We will park/leave all extra cars at Andretti’s. From there we will embark on our approximate 70 mile back road venture to the Woodbridge Inn & Restaurant in Jasper, GA. It is suggested every car include a driver and a navigator. Some of the roads are narrow and not well marked. I will be providing maps for every vehicle as I understand many GPS units don’t have every road we will be
on. With that said, all roads are paved.
Even if your car is not road worthy, please join us. You can catch a ride or enjoy the drive in your road worthy vehicle that you
bring. The more the better. Spouses & kids are welcome.
I need to RSVP to the Woodbridge Inn by this Wednesday with a
final count.
We currently have reservations for 12 Noon in the “G” Room. Please reply to me no later than 12 Noon on
Wednesday.

Meeting Details: February - Cruise to Woodbridge Inn
Mike passed around some information about the Woodbridge Inn in Jasper, GA. Check it out at http://www.woodbridgeinn.net.
If you take the back roads it takes about 3 hours (about 70 miles), but you can travel by highway which is about 40 miles.
Our plan is to meet in Roswell (Houze Rd) and those that want to will cruise together by the back roads. GPS does not work well on these roads, so you may want to bring a navigator and cell phone just in case. Maps will be provided for both routes, so that, in case of bad weather, we can take the highway route.
Denny Sanford says the food is excellent.
March – Memories in Monroe
Takes place in downtown Monroe. They block off the streets for the occasion, about 300 cars attend.
4
April – Atlanta Motorama Takes place at Atlanta Motor Speedway, sponsored by Summit, inviting all car clubs to participate.
If our club has 5 or more attendees, they provide us XX awards and we have the opportunity to drive on the track, which is A BLAST.
If our club has 10 or more attendees, same thing but they provide more awards.
May - BOPC See handout emailed by Danny Finkelstein on 1/9/2014. Hosted this year by the Peach State Cadillac & LaSalle Club. Takes place at the Marriott Northwest in Marietta. Rooms are approximately $80 a night.
May - 27th
Annual Pontiac/GMC Car Show
There is no POCI in Georgia, but there is one in Alabama. This is their national event. Mike is hoping to have this club co-commit with ours to attend each other’s events.
Membership It would be a good thing to have more members! How can we do this? Suggestions are:
As an incentive, first year membership dues are only $10 for new members.
Think about incentives we might provide for current members who recruit new members, such as apparel.
We should try to recruit more Pontiac owners, not just GTO owners.
Please be sure to have a membership form in hand when attending events, to make it easy for new members to join. You can download the application from the website, www.segtoa.org, membership tab.
SEGTOA is Non Profit
Per our club bylaws, we must make a charitable donation each year, or lose our non-profit status.
This was not voted on at the Christmas Party.
Kim Fowler made a motion that the club donate to the same charities and the same amounts as last year, reserving $1000 in the club treasury for this year’s operating expenses. Motion was seconded and passed.
GTO Resource Reference
If you know of a resource that has done a good job on a car for you or someone you know, be sure to submit the name and contact information so we can put together a list.
The form is provided on pages 5-6 of the January 2014 Tiger Tales (emailed 1/1/2014). Various types of work and service resources are listed on the form, but there are probably others (such as headliners).
It was suggested we could list these resources at the back of the directory.
Apparel
There is stock of our older apparel that is not yet sold.
Ed Bellair suggested that we could give away old inventory as door prizes.
We have a new vendor who will print apparel as needed. We need to put this information in the newsletter. o Items available include long-sleeve polo shirts, golf shirts, button downs.

#1: Best Upgrades
By John Link
As some of you know, Bob Immekus and I
have been working on GTOs in my garage. We have been doing repairs and upgrades
to member’s cars. It’s a pleasure to see the changes in the way a car looks or
drives after we’re finished. A member
asked me the other day, what I thought were the best upgrades for a classic
GTO. I’m not an expert but here’s my thoughts.
The first upgrade is kind of a “no brainer” - Disc Brakes. Everyone knows how
important it is to be able to stop as well as newer cars. The cost is very reasonable
for the advantages it provides. Most kits are complete and relatively easy to install.
I like the Right Stuff Detailing kits (can
even use 14” wheels with some of
their kits).
The second is upgrading your
power steering box. The power steering
on 60s GTOs never was tight (and
wasn’t supposed to be). Over the years,
the steering gets even looser (wear
on the gears, etc.). Ames Performance (and other vendors) offers a Variable
Ratio Steering Box that’s more expensive than a standard replacement box but well
worth the investment. ($680.00 vs
$150.00). We’ve installed 3 of theses in the past few months.
The improvement in steering is amazing !!! With a new variable ratio
steering box, your GTO will steer like a modern car. The car drives like a non-
power steering car at highway speeds (no
wander) with plenty of power steering at
low speeds. If you drive your GTO, this is the upgrade for you!!

CARS IN THE MOVIES
Interested in having your car used in movie making?
You can place your car in a registry at
“movietimecars.com”. Some sites want you to pay for a
listing but this site is free. Show your vehicle at no
charge and maybe make a few dollars.
You could become famous, like Ed Bellair !!! His car was
used in a film recently as was
a car owned by a Dixie Buick Club member.
GTO Parts & Services Sources Thank You to Jeremiah Riggio and Bob Mohalley for tracking down some useful on-line sources for GTO parts and services. Hopefully these will prove useful to you in keeping your GTO looking like a proper time machine!
