Ticona closes UK compounding plant Ticona is to close its com- pounding operations at its site in Telford, United Kingdom. The company says that it plans to concentrate its European manufacturing operations in Germany. The process will begin immediately, says Ticona, and is anticipated to be complete by the middle of 2003. The sales and marketing functions in the UK will remain unaffected. According to Ticona, the move of the production to Germany is being done to improve the overall financial performance of the polyester

business line through improv- ing the overall supply chain. The company claims that this will enable it to improve speed to market for its European customers. The Telford facility has been manufacturing Ticona prod- ucts for over 15 years. The site has a manufacturing capacity of 14,000 tonnes per year and primarily compounds poly- ester products for the European market. In brief Custom compounder RTP Company has opened its first direct representative office in China. The office is located in Shanghai, near the centre of the country's fast growing manufacturing base. The com- pany says that the office is the latest addition to its network of sales representatives and dis- tributors selling its products throughout the Asia/Pacific region. RTP Company says that it is undertaking signifi- cant expansion in Asia. Sherwin-Williams Chemicals has named The Cary Company as exclusive distribu- tor of Kemgard ® flame retar- dants/smoke suppressants in the upper Midwast region of

the USA. The Cary Company distributes a wide range of additives, resins and pigments and has a main warehouse facility in Addison, Illinois. Dow Plastics has completed a new mass-ABS production facility at its Terneuzen site in the Netherlands. The expan- sion is said to increase Dow's global production capacity for Magnum TM ABS resins by around 75,000 metric tons (165 million pounds. The company says that the addi- tional capacity will increase supply of differentiated Magnum ABS resins to key markets, such information technology, appliance and automotive sectors.
