Patrick McDonald was named Director of the Ohio Lottery Feb. 7, 2019 byGovernor Mike DeWine. Prior to his appointment, he served as Ohio LotteryCommission Chairman and Director of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.Mr. McDonald had been an Ohio Lottery Commissioner since 2007 and served asChairman from 2011 until his February 2019 appointment. Under his leadership,the Commission added audit and problem gambling committees to review andrefine the agency’s management practices.

Mr. McDonald has more than 25 years in senior and executive management rolesin state and local government. He has served as Finance Director for the OhioSecretary of State, Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce andDeputy State Treasurer in the office of Ohio Treasurer of State.

Mr. McDonald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of PublicAdministration degree from the University of Dayton.

When cashing tickets remember:• Scan the ticket.• Press “Pay” and exit the screen. (Pressing "Print" does not capture the transaction.)• Press “Redeem All Cash.”

You must press “Redeem All Cash” at the bottom of the shopping cart in order to getcredit for cashing.

Note: Save your tickets and receipts until you balance at the end of the day, your invoicematches your cash drawer and your accounting procedures are satisfied.

Photon Tips :

When a ticket won’tprint during a credit ordebit card transactionWith the Photon terminal, the customer receipt prints before theactual tickets. If you experience a network connection problemor the liability limit for a game (like Pick 3) is reached duringthe processing of a credit card transaction, you will receivetwo receipts – the first with all the wagers requested. Afterthe tickets print, any interruption will be captured bythe printing of a second receipt, reflecting all thewagers that actually printed and were processedby the gaming system.

Provide customers with their tickets and bothreceipts. Customers should use the barcode at thebottom of the revised receipt as a voucher (note:either receipt works) toward a future purchase usingthe funds not played. Since all credit and debit cardpurchased are non-refundable, the voucher serves asa credit for any unplayed funds.

Kelly Krause, sales representative for Abbe Road Drive Thru,calls owner Imad Hanna “a cheerleader for the Lottery.’

“He definitely caters to his Lottery players.” Says Kelly. “Hetakes care of them and they know it.”

Imad purchased the store in 2012, making his business oneof the top Lottery retailers in the region and among the top 1%of retailers statewide. For a time, he also owned Express Petro,the gasoline c-store across thestreet, but sold that businessin 2018 to focus on the drivethru and allow more time withhis family.

Customers at the gas stationtypically wanted to be in andout of the store quickly, but hisdrive thru customers walk infrequently and like to be waitedon – in essence, they are adifferent type of customer.

Abbe Road Drive Thru hasfour employees in addition toImad, with up to two workingtogether during busy periodsat the store. All employeesare trained to sell Ohio Lotterygames and they make it apoint to know their customers’names.

“We specialize in Lottery,” saysImad. “We are here to helpcustomers get what they want,the way they want.”

Lottery customers are welcome to stay and play for a while.The store includes a couch and TV to make the drive thru

comfortable for customers whovisit the store as part of theirmorning routine. Most of thesecustomers are retired. AbbeRoad Drive Thru also has aKeno monitor for customerswho enjoy watching thedrawings.

“We want them to feel like thisis their spot,” says Imad, whospends most days at the store.

The addition of Keno has alsomade a positive impact onLottery sales at Abbe RoadDrive Thru.

Having good employees isa top priority for Imad. “Youneed to love people to dealwith people,” says Imad. Hefeels it’s important to own upto mistakes and be honestwith customers. Nothingis more important thanreputation.

Keys to success• Pay all winning customers.

• Make sure transactions are correct and adjust asneeded. If Imad determines a mistake has beeninadvertently made, he’ll make sure the issue isresolved so customers have the highest confidence inhis store.

• Provide a comfortable area for customers to sit andplay. Imad has strategically placed Keno monitors intwo comfortable seating areas so customers canenjoy Keno and a wide variety of instant and drawgames. Customers have access to an MP and ticketvending machine, as well as ticket sold over thecounter. Imad’s staff maintains a great rapport withcustomers, and he provides free coffee for customerswho want to stay and play.
