YOU AIN'T HEARD NOTHIN' YET: A TRlBUTE TO AL JOLSON Co-Presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences October 5 - 7 >> Egyptian Theatre Believe it or not, the first sound feature film with spoken dia- logue premiered 80 years ago (October 6, 1927)! The film was THE JAZZ SINGER and its star was none other than the leg- endary Mr. Al Jolson (1886 - 1950), The World's Greatest Entertainer. Al Jolson was the pre-eminent superstar of his era; his influence has been incalcu- lable. There isn’t a major entertainer since 1920 who somehow, some way has not been affected by the magic of Jolson. His pres- entation style of singing to the audience and making every song an event, is mir- rored in the work of performers from Judy Garland to Frank Sinatra, Mick Jagger to Michael Jackson. Join us for a weekend of Jolson films, a panel discussion on the restoration of “Al Jolson in A Plantation Act” and a live Cabaret show in tribute of Jolson on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of this landmark in motion picture history. This showcase of the best in new Italian films, opens with Daniele Luchetti's much-lauded MY BROTHER IS AN ONLY CHILD, co-written by THE BEST OF YOUTH screenwriters Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli. Others range from comic period pieces (NAPOLEON AND I), to coming of age stories (FLY- ING LESSONS), to reflec- tions on life and career (ONE OUT OF TWO), to dark stories of crime (THE WOLF), plus a retrospec- tive of the animated shorts of Ursula Ferrara, one of the most important figures in Italian animation. All films at the Egyptian are in the 616-seat Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre unless it isspecified that the film is in the 78-seat Steven Spielberg Theatre. The EgyptianTheatre is at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, LA, CA 90028 (between McCaddenPlace & Las Palmas Avenue) in Hollywood. 1.5 blocks east of Hollywood/Highland Red Line Metro station.

Parking: The theatre validates ONLY for Hollywood and Highland, $2 for 4hours (each additional 20 minutes is $1). Free street parking after 6 PM on side streets. LAFilm School Lot, 6363 W. Sunset Blvd., (enter on east side of Ivar, north of Sunset).$5. Closes at 1 AM.
