WWeednnneessddaaay,, JJJannnuuaaryy 2200, 220011003M EPSEFrom Dream to Reality The demand for cosmetic dental procedures has seen a huge increase over the last few years. However success in this industry is dependent upon more than the simple desire to have a “cosmetic dental practice”. Competition among practices today is fi erce; patients are overwhelmed by the need to be informed in order to make the best choices for their dental health. Many of them are left asking, “Who do I believe?’ For cosmetic dentists alike, the issue becomes how to go about setting yourself apart from the competition while staying within the boundaries of the RCDSO. To simply align your practice with the identity of “Family and Cosmetic Dentistry” will not guarantee you success. Dr. Jordan Soll, recognized as a leader in the fi eld of “appearance related procedures”, distinguishes 10 principles to be adhered to and which will set you along the pathway to creating a true “cosmetic dentistry” practice.

Dr. Jordan Soll is highly interested in Aesthetics in Dentistry. He has a special interest in appearance related procedures and is the dental expert for Cityline. He has authored numerous articles and is the cosmetic consultant to the editorial board of Oral Health Magazine. He conceived and developed the Strategic Esthetic Planning Guide, as well as the Achieve Maximum Altitude Program. In addition, he has lectured throughout Canada and the U.S. on topics pertaining to Cosmetic Dentistry and Entrepreneurism in Dentistry.

The presentation will incorporate the following aspects: tax exempt investment growth corporately and personally, tax exempt transfer on death to future generations, tax exempt access personally to corporate monies, charities etc., and will illustrate how a business owner can create 2-4 times more cash for personal use during their lifetime from exactly the same profi ts compared to normal taxable or tax deferred structures we see used today.

Ernie Greenwood has worked with hundreds of successful private business owners, who were not aware of their options allowed under Canadian Law. Ernie has a wealth of clients who have relied on his leadership in addressing challenges that private business owners face every day.

Mark O’Farrell, BA, CFP, CLU, CHFC, TEP founded Strategic Edge to help dentists who pay too much tax. He has given more than a hundred seminars to dentists from Vancouver to St. John’s and from Juneau to Palm Springs, for dental societies and major dentistry suppliers. Using a tax-based approach, he can achieve outstanding results with conservative projections, and provides free fi nancial practice analysis to all dentists in Canada. Mark believes that if you provide the education and relevant information with full disclosure, dentists can make their own well informed decisions. Strategic Edge does not replace existing relationships with accountants, lawyers or other advisors.

Friddayy, Febbbruaaryy 112, 220100MicryliumExtraction & Immediate Implant Placement Bone Augmentation - The Next Generation Special Aseptic ConsiderationsAmong the great challenges facing clinical research is the development of bioactive surgical additives regulating infl ammation and increasing healing. Indeed, after each intervention, surgeons must face complex tissue remodelling phenomena and the consequences on healing and tissue survival. Every extraction is now an opportunity to prevent adjacent periodontal ligament damage and bone necrosis. Special aseptic considerations will be discussed as related to Implantology and sterilization including new advances in measurement and tracking with Instant read-out Class V integrators and RFID instrument trackers that will reduce exposure risks both biologically and legally. Dean Swift will examine the new vacuum Class B machines that are blossoming in the marketplace. Material presented will be a benefi t for the entire staff.

Dean Swift, B.Sc., con. Biochemistry, Microbiology is a Materials Scientist and Educator with special interests in Biofi lms and Toxicity. He is an original Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials, a member of the IADR and Innovator’s Alliance. In addition to being Research Director at Micrylium Laboratories he is also a member of the iDAPT Toronto Rehab Research team.

Frriddayyy, MMMMarcchh 2666, 220010Shaw Group of Dental Laboratories Basic Surgical Principles for Complicated ExtractionsMinor oral surgery is a common thread to every dental practice. There are general surgical principles which are required to perform almost all oral surgical procedures. It is the ability of the practitioner in performing these procedures that is the limiting factor in profi cient delivery of care to their patients. This seminar will focus on the basic surgical principles as they apply to complicated dental extractions ranging from patient evaluation, anaesthesia, instrumentation, anatomy, and the handing of soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. The application of these principles to other oral surgical procedures including periodontal and endodontic therapy, are also relevant. It is the goal of the presenter to provide participants with a strong knowledge base of basic surgical principles in order to deliver proper patient care.

Reena M. Talwar, DDS, PhD, FRCD(C) is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, both in the Faculty of Dentistry (Discipline of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Anaesthesia) and Faculty of Medicine (Department of Anatomy). Her goals are to provide her patients with quality surgical care and her students with sound academic principles.

Frriddayyy, DDDeccceemmmbeerr 17, 201100VidentEsthetics and Materials: What? Where? When?In the search for the ultimate in esthetic restorative dentistry many new materials and techniques have been introduced to the profession. More than ever today’s practitioner is faced with the diffi cult task of evaluating these new materials and techniques and making appropriate decisions for their clinical use. Critical aspects of the mechanical and chemical properties of materials that are not generally understood will be discussed and related to clinical conditions that would either contribute to the success or failure of the restoration. This presentation will clarify the esthetic requirements of a material and dispel some of the confusion regarding the optical properties necessary for esthetic success. The current research about the effi cacy and clinical success of these new materials, from simple treatments such as bleaching to more involved fi xed partial denture to implant situations, will also be discussed. Specifi c clinical indications for these various materials will be given based on the research and clinical evidence from ongoing clinical trials. Detailed guidelines that will help the practitioner to decide when to inlay vs. onlay, onlay vs. crown, direct bond vs. indirect veneer, and when and what material is indicated for fi xed partial dentures will be reviewed. Indications and design requirements for clinical success with metal free alternatives will be featured. Attention will be given to preparation requirements, tissue management, impressions, provisionalization, shade matching and cementation using several clinical examples.

Topics Covered: How material physical properties relate to clinical success and failure • A systematic approach to indirect material selection • When to use a “Etchable” ceramic restoration e.g. bonded porcelain • When to veneer vs. when to crown • When to do no-prep veneers • When, why, and how to remove tooth structure for various types of materials and differing clinical conditions • When to inlay vs. onlay • Clinical management of several clinical cases covering all types of indirect restorations

Secondly, to learn and use digital shade taking technology, and master the skills of visual shade taking. Third, how to import images into Photoshop and how to optimize the images and import them into a customized PowerPoint presentation. The course will also cover the use of photography as it relates to dentist-ceramist communication relative to shade analysis. Also covered will be the AACD accreditation series of images. All of these topics will be covered in a lecture and demonstration format. The participants will then divide up into teams and will take visual and computerized shades on each other. Then the teams will take the demonstrated dental and portrait images on each other. Lastly, the participants will import their images into Photoshop to optimize the images, which will then be exported to a PowerPoint presentation. All shade taking and photographic equipment will be supplied. The participants will need to bring a lap top computer confi gured with Photoshop and PowerPoint. We will have a few computers available but not enough for every participant.
