School Captain’s Report

Prep: This week the Preps learnt about the letter ‘W’.

We continued writing and publishing our rhyming

poems. In I.S we looked at our 5 senses. We loved

celebrating our 100 days of school– we made glasses,

crowns and party food. It was the best day!

1/2: In 1/2 we’ve continued our work on counting patterns. We’re learning to edit our

own writing so that we can publish our writing about camp. In reading we’re

sequencing events. Through Integrated Studies we’ve been learning about sight.

3/4: This week in 3/4 we have been exploring Haikus. In reading we discussed how to

infer and how we gather information based on prior knowledge.

5/6: This week we continued reading our class novel and completed several activities

to deepen our comprehension. We learnt how to add and convert fractions. Our Round

Robin sport’s day was a great success and we all had a fun day.

School Council Report:

We are now well in to Term 3 and starting to think about our direction in 2020. The school executive

and school council use a number of resources to aid in planning decisions. Amongst these are the

student and parent opinion surveys. Students in grades 4 -6 are surveyed to gauge their views on

topics such as learning at LPPS, social issues and community engagement. It was pleasing to see that

the majority of students enjoy coming to school and are engaged in their learning.

Parent opinion surveys have been distributed and, at the time this was written, 28 responses have

been received. The parent opinion survey is your chance to voice your opinion on our school and

provide feedback on a range of topics, whether positive or negative. Previous feedback on a need

for improved communication between the school and families led to the implementation of Com-

pass, the purchase and installation of the new electronic signage on Carter St and the creation of a

LPPS Facebook page. If you were selected to complete the parent opinion survey and have not yet

completed it, there is still time to get your response in before they close.

LPPS is conscious of the fast moving pace of technology and the need to invest in programs that will

give our students a solid foundation for the future. Senior students have recently had a coding incur-

sion and the finance committee has approved spending on products and programs to build on the

student’s understanding of coding and associated technologies. Not only will this be beneficial to all

students as they move through their studies, it also encourages non-linear thinking and problem

solving skills.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

Many families will have received notification that they have

been randomly selected to participate in the 2019 Parent

Opinion Survey. This annual survey offered by the Department

of Education and Training is completely anonymous. The assistance of fami-

lies in completing the survey is greatly appreciated. The Parent Opinion Sur-

vey helps us to gain an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school cli-

mate, student behaviour and student engagement.

So far we have had a 23% response rate. 115 survey invitations were

distributed with 26 responses completed.

We ask that you please set aside 15 minutes to complete the survey. It can be

accessed at any convenient time on your laptop, smart phone

or tablet. The survey results will be reported back to our

school in September. We thank you for your participation and

feedback.

The survey closes on Sunday 11th August
