Researchers from the Uni-versity of Leicester said theyhad found a male skeleton withsimilarities to historical de-scriptions of Richard, whoruled England between 1483and his death in battle in 1485.

The remains, which are wellpreserved, are undergoingDNA analysis.

"What we have uncoveredis truly remarkable," saidRichard Taylor, the university'sdirector of corporate affairs.

The team, which has been

excavating a car park in thecity of Leicester for threeweeks, said the skeleton had anarrow-head embedded in itsback and had received blows tothe skull consistent with in-juries received in battle.

Today, Richard III is bestknown as the hunchbacked vil-lain of a play by WilliamShakespeare -- and while theskeleton is not that of a hunch-back, it does have a curvedspine.

Such actions "may haveraised the level of output by al-most three percent and in-creased private payroll em -ployment by more than twomillion jobs, relative to whatotherwise would have oc-curred," he argued.

Fed Chairman Ben Ber -nanke made clear on August31 that he backs new monetaryeasing efforts, in a speech tocentral bankers in JacksonHole, Wyoming.

He called growth tepid andhoned in on the unemploymentrate, which has stayed stuckabove 8 percent all year, withlittle significant reduction inthe number of jobless.

"The stagnation of the labormarket in particular is a graveconcern not only because ofthe enormous suffering andwaste of human talent it en-tails, but also because persist-ently high levels of unem -ployment will wreak structuraldamage on our economy thatcould last for many years."

Options, analysts said, in-clude a strong verbal statementby the FOMC committingthemselves to holding theirbenchmark interest rate at thecurrent near-zero level through2015.

But also possible is thelaunch of "QE3," a huge"quantitative easing" bond-buying program aimed at fur-ther depressing long-terminte rest rates.

"The Fed has made it clearthat some form of easing willtake place at its meeting thisweek. There seems little doubtthat the easing will entail astrengthening of its verbal guid-ance on the low-for-long pol-icy," said Peter Hooper andTorsten Slok of Deutsche Bank.

"If you cut wages further itwill further destabilise themarket and it would go intofurther recession," he said.

Indexing wages to produc-tivity and inflation targetscould serve as criteria to boostincomes, he said.

One of the main problemswas the lack of investment bygovernments afraid of gettinginto debt, Flassbeck said, likening the current economicsituation to that of 1990s low-growth Japan. European coun-tries had built up a "mantra ofausterity" led by Germany andother countries in the eurozonewere following suit, with fiscaldeadlock the result, he said.

"Marine Drive is not a racetrack and no race should everbe held on it," said a lettersigned by Ashok Rao, councilpresident.

"There's been a lot of acci-dents on the road because ofrash driving and Lewis Hamil-ton will only encourage that,"Rao told AFP.

He also said the noise pol-lution and disruption were un-suitable in an area for whichthey are trying to obtain UN-ESCO heritage status.

"We have nothing againstLewis Hamilton. We wouldlike to protect the area, that'sit," he said.

Organisers of the "Voda-fone Speed Fest" said they haddecided to shift the venue outof respect for locals' concerns.

LONDON (AFP) - BritishPrime Minister DavidCameron apologised Wednes-day to families of the 96 Hills-borough football stadiumdisaster victims after a probefound police tried to blame fansfor the 1989 tragedy.

Cameron told parliament thevictims had suffered a "doubleinjustice" from official failingsthat led to fans being crushed inBritain's worst sporting tragedyand then from police attemptsto impugn the dead.

He was speaking after theseven-member HillsboroughIndependent Panel led by theBishop of Liverpool publisheda report following an exhaus-tive review of thousands of for-merly secret documents.

The disaster was caused bymassive overcrowding in theLeppings Lane End of Hills-borough stadium in the north-ern English city of Sheffield atthe 1989 FA Cup semi-final be-tween Liverpool and Notting-ham Forest.

To ease overcrowding out-side, police opened an exitgate, allowing supporters toflood into the central pens.Fenced in, fans were crushed todeath.

Lawmakers gasped asCameron said the panel foundthat police repeatedly tried tocover up evidence of their ownfailings following the disasterin a bid to make it look as iffans were at fault.

Police "significantlyamended" 164 statements, in-

cluding the removal of 116 neg-ative comments about the lead-ership of the police, he said.

By analysing post-mortemreports, the panel found 41people could potentially havebeen revived had the emer-gency services taken moreprompt action.

Cameron said the attorneygeneral would now review the"deeply distressing" report todecide whether to apply to thehigh court to quash an original, flawed inquest into the tragedy.

UK asylum KINSHASA(AFP) - Six

members of the Democratic

Republic of Congo's

Olympic and Paralympic

teams are seeking asylum in

Britain, citing political and

rights abuses in their coun-

try, an official said Wednes-

day.

Lawyer Patrick Pindi,

who heads a Congolese asso-

ciation for disabled people,

said three members of the

Olympic delegation, a Para-

lympic committee official

and two disabled athletes

"don't want to go home."

The three Olympic dele-

gates -- judo trainer Blaise

Bekwa, athletics coach Guy

Nkita and boxing coach Ade-

lard Ibula -- have been miss-

ing since the Olympic

Games finished August 12.

Pindu said the disabled

athletes -- Dedeline

Mibamba and Levy Kitam-

bala -- and the delegation of-

ficial, Robert Dikazolele,

had called him on September

7 to tell him they would not

return to DR Congo.

"They told me that the

country is in a state of inse-

curity, that there is bad gov-

ernance and gruesome rights

violations," he said, adding

that the delegates said dis-

abled people are treated

without respect and political

opponents are mistreated.

Pindu said his organisa-

tion deplored Mibamba and

Kitambala's decision.

"I had said to them that it

was the first time that people

living with handicaps had

taken part in such an impor-

tant international event and

that it would be better if they

came home," Pindu said.

He added that he warned

the athletes their decision

could impact future competi-

tors trying to secure visas.

"But apparently our ad-

vice was in vain," he said.

"They have chosen their

path."
