A Turkey’s Thanksgiving The turkey’s Thanksgiving falls on the day following the usual Thanks- giving day. Yes, I know you’re won- dering what I mean by that. Two per- fectly good reasons for a turkey to be thanKful come to my mind right now. Those gobblers left are grateful to be alive and glad it was the other fel- low who got it -in the neck. Today is Turkey Thanksgiving. As I sit here I can hear the sounds of Courage, My Friend ! Said the rooster to the turkey, “Why do you look so blue?” "If you were in my shoes, I'll bet You’d change your color, too!” "Ha! ha! laughed the rooster, "Do you remember The day you laughed at me In the middle of last December?” “But I was only kidding,” Said the turkey with a sneer, festivity coming from the barnyard. ytSr monOt ? ^ y°U 'aU8h? We Would Like to Know Who called up “Tillie” Huch one Sunday evening. Why “Becky' Jordan is Miss Tur- ner’s pet. Who Bill Sanford is taking to the Masonic dance Dec. 13th. Where Leo Hosley and Bob Potter are going to get 70c apiece by Thanks- giving eve. Why George Larson “just lofes” in 6th period study hall. Why George Malcolm likes to dance with Fay Kelsey so well. Why Lester Long wears those cleats on his shoes. Who called up Eunice Baker and kept the wire busy for 10 minutes Tuesday night. Why Laura Case and Milton Mc- Mahon stand up so frequently when Miss Young’s back* is turned. Who the new “Harold Lloyd” of FILS is. What the boys of FHS mean when they say “Gobble, Gobble.” What coincidence causes the “phone” to ring so often in Miss Jes- sup’s 6th period study hall. ; How much candy, the Juniors sold at the first Tea Dance of the year. Why those- dances held in the after - noon at the school are called Tea Dances. We don’t remember having any tea. VVhy Miss Young said Jimmy Char- ity was a boy who never bothered anyone. Robert Kohl insists upon writing poetry. Who is she? One old fellow seems quite upset over something. Yes, a circle of nis wives and children about - him and he’s squawking in a most excited manner. Let us assume that we understand turkey language and we shall hear what Pa Turkey is talking about. Here is what he's saying. “Come here and finish your corn, Tillie Turk. If you don’t, you may get what I dreamed about last night. 1 was at one of those grand dinners that the Americans give oi* Thanks- giving. But L didn't look the way 1 do now. No sir! 1 was all stuffed with something sticky they called dressing and my sides were all brown. 1 looked around and soon found that 1 was on a huge table. Around me were dishes of mashed potatoes, squash, cabbage salad, cranberry sauce and pickles. I began to feel sick. Was I to share the fate of all those things that humans eat? “Must be! Oh heaven! There was a whole crowd of people coming into the dining room. There was Mr. Hig- gins and Mrs. Higgins and Ned. Grandma and Grandpa Higgins and Uncle Will and Aunt Jenny and Miss Hammond were trouping. along be- hind. After grace was said Ned com- menced to yell, ‘Ginnne a laig, gimme a laig, I want both laigs.’ A kick under the table served to reduce Ned’s appetite for legs to only one. My! was 1 grateful to Mrs. Higgins for that kick. However I began to think that Mrs, Higgins had purposes of her own when she allowed Ned to have only one because she took my other leg. Grandpa ate the back. Grandma, whose requirements were more dainty, took a piece of breast .meat. Miss Hammond, inclined to think herself humorous, said, 'Did that bird have any wings? They say every part strengthens a part, so I’d better start growing wings now be- cause after I die my chances will be all g-one.’ “Well, my meat was all gone. I hoped they'd leave my bones to rest in peace. But no! Rover had to have a Thanksgiving dinner too. “He got gtfy bones. And that, Tillie Turk, is what will happen to..you unless you are a good little turkey-girl.” When I Was in Texas is almost here! “My friend, 1 took it with a smile,” Said the rooster, not to brag, “And after chasing me an hour They had me in tne bag! "But just before they raised the axe, What did I do but crow. They had so much sympathy ' They had to let me go. “And that-is why 1 live today. We’ll both live quite a while If we just throw our blues away And take it with a smile!” Albert DiRisio Alumni Notes The following young people are home from various colleges for the Thanksgiving week end. Peters) as she inspected grand- mother’s wedding ring. What heavy, unwieldly things those were fifty years ago.” “Yes, dear,’ 'replied granny, “in my day they were made to last a life time.” Just as I was entering the little towh of “Swartzenburg” in “Stein- felt” county, Texas, the shouts of the villagers, who were crowding the streets, attracted my attention ‘.‘Nuttall” but more than half of them were shouting “Lynch” 'im! “Lynch” ’im. After struggling through the crowd 1 found that the victim was Governor “Mailin’’ who was held by the shoulder by the strong large arms of General “Coffee”, Commander of the Texas State Troopers. I asked a colored “Butler” who was standing beside me what the trouble was. The reply was, “Well, you know ‘De Land’ west of de rivva bwanch, well, there was a big lion in de ‘Ryon’ Zoo and the govennah, he don “Turner” loose into de street. In “Nolan” awaund did ah ebba see a bigga.Mion.” Another man told me the lion was shot and killed by Captain “Johnson” of the police squad. The “Young” lion was thrown, into the “ Bickle" Creek, “Jessup” the “Swift” “Law- rence” river. By the time Governor Martin was extracted from the crowd, he had a “Zomows.” Eunice Baker (wife)—You used to say that there was something about me that you liked. LaVerne Coffee (husband)— Yes,, but you’ve spent it all. Johnny, if your little brother has five apples and you take two from him. what would be the result? Johnny (Alvin Shultz)—A licking, sir. Such conduct, is a mark of low standards and not a symbol of smart- ness as some boys seem to feel. School buildings are erected and equipped at great cost and purs6s of tho parents of the school children. Boys and. girls, the building and equipment belong to you. You hurt yourself far more than you hurt the teacher when you disfiguro them. Well, well, well. And another great big crowd knows that we really can have a good time and a lot of fun at a Tea Dance! Operations began at 3:30 and there was no urging needed to dance. ‘ The floor was well filled but not crowded and the bleachers were appreciated by those who couldn't dance, those who were “too tired to dance,” those happy gentlemen who were cut in on and, between dances, by all concerned. Candy was sold by the Juniors and seemed to be appreciated by all who had the necessary jiickels. The last dance, consisting of five pieces, wound up at 5:30 after which we sallied forth into very damp weather. However, I'm sure that everybody enjoyed themselves more than enough to over- come that, and that another Tea Dance will be as well attended and appreciated as this one. A negro was inspecting a friend’s horse. You say dat hawse is lazy? Lazy? Man—looka dat fly on his nose. Pestahs him considerable, but he’s waiting till dey’s two or three befo he bothers bout sneezin1 ’em off. Girl Sports Irate Landlord (Glenn Johnson)— What does this mean ? This is a new house, and I find the door torn off. Tenant (Bob Ward)—Well, you see, I just tied the dog to the doorknob and a cat went by. Manager (Hank Vigaretti) to young lad seeking employment—Weren’t you here two weeks ago and didn’t I tell .you then that I wanted an older boy? Young Lad (Bill Cobb)—Yes, sir, That's why I’ve come back. Teacher (Mr. Martin) to brilliant pupil (Wm. Wilson)—William, how many bones have you in your body?' William—Nine hundred. Teacher—That’s a great many more than I have. William—But teacher, I had sar- dines for lunch. The senator, a mem- ber., of the committee on education in tho\scnate, believes it high time for alterations.in the organization. —The Honcoyc Falls Times The girls’ basketball teams were organized Nov. 21 for all the classes in the High school. A Turkey’s ThanksgivingThe tu rkey ’s Thanksgiving falls on

the day following the usual Thanksgiving day. Yes, I know you’re wondering what I mean by that. Two perfectly good reasons fo r a turkey to be thanKful come to my mind r igh t now. Those gobblers left are g ra tefu l to be alive and glad it was the other fellow who got it -in the neck.

Today is Turkey Thanksgiving. As I s it here I can hear the sounds of

Courage, My Friend !Said the rooster to the turkey, “ Why do you look so b lu e?”"If you were in my shoes, I'll bet You’d change your color, too!” "H a! ha! laughed the rooster, "Do you remember The day you laughed a t me In the middle of last D ecem ber?” “B u t I was only kidding,”Said the turkey with a sneer,

One old fellow seems quite upse t over something. Yes, a circle of nis wives and children about - him and he’s squawking in a most excited manner. Let us assume th a t we understand turkey language and we shall hear w hat Pa Turkey is ta lk ing about. Here is w hat he's saying.

“Come here and finish your corn, Tillie Turk. If you don’t, you may get what I dreamed about last night.1 was a t one of those grand dinners that the Americans give oi* Thanksgiving. But L didn't look the way 1 do now. No sir! 1 was all stuffed with something sticky they calleddressing and my sides were all brown.1 looked around and soon found tha t 1 was on a huge table. Around me were dishes of mashed potatoes, squash, cabbage salad, cranberrysauce and pickles. I began to feel sick. W as I to share the fa te of all those things th a t hum ans ea t?

“ Must be! Oh heaven! There was a whole crowd of people coming into the dining room. There was Mr. H iggins and Mrs. Higgins and Ned. Grandma and Grandpa Higgins and Uncle Will and A unt Jenny and Miss Hammond were trouping. along behind. A fter grace was said Ned commenced to yell, ‘Ginnne a laig, gimme a laig, I want both laigs.’ A kick under the table served to reduce Ned’s appetite for legs to only one. My! was 1 gra tefu l to Mrs. Higgins for tha t kick. However I began to think th a t Mrs, Higgins had purposes of her own when she allowed Ned to have only one because she took my other leg. Grandpa a te the back. Grandma, whose requirem ents were more dainty, took a piece of breast

.meat. Miss Hammond, inclined to think herself humorous, said, 'Did th a t bird have any wings? They say every pa r t s trengthens a part, so I ’d better s ta r t growing wings now because a f te r I die my chances will be all g-one.’

“ Well, my m eat was all gone. I hoped they'd leave my bones to re s t in peace. But no! Rover had to have a Thanksgiving dinner too. “He got gtfy bones. And that, Tillie Turk, is w hat will happen to..you unless you are a good little turkey-girl.”

Defacing BuildingAnd Furniture

One occasionally sees a building soiled w ith ' chalk m arks, pictures draw n on the walls ahd desks hacked and disfigured. * "A studen t who will re so r t to tricks such as these is an enemy to a school and should be shunned by a ll self-respecting boys and girls. Such conduct, is a m ark of low s tan d a rd s and not a symbol of sm a r tness as some boys seem to feel. School buildings a re erected and equipped a t g rea t cost and purs6s of tho paren ts of the school children. Boys and. girls, the building and equipm ent belong to you. You h u r t yourself f a r m ore than you h u r t the teacher when you disfiguro them.

Well, well, well. And another great big crowd knows th a t we really can have a good tim e and a lot of fun a t a Tea Dance!

Operations began a t 3:30 and there was no urging needed to dance. ‘ The floor was well filled but not crowded and the bleachers were appreciated by those who couldn't dance, those who were “ too tired to dance,” those happy gentlemen who were cut in on and, between dances, by all concerned. Candy was sold by the Juniors and seemed to be appreciated by all who had the necessary jiickels. The last dance, consisting of five pieces, wound up a t 5:30 a f te r which we sallied forth into very damp weather. However, I 'm sure th a t everybody enjoyed themselves more than enough to overcome that, and th a t another Tea Dance will be as well attended and appreciated as this one.
