LEADERS’ NEWS The Annual General Meeting was held on Monday night. This was an opportunity for parents to hear about the happenings at EPS during 2016 and to elect the new School Council.

Thank you to our parents and staff who attended. Councillors are your representatives so please speak with them about any issues you would like Council to discuss. Our School Council members for 2017 are:

Kate Bishop Chair Person Jo Laird Michael Rodenburg Deputy Chair Carolyn Boyd Stephanie Hensgen Secretary Alistair Standish School Leadership Members Craig Heidenreich Treasurer Josephine Telfer Kathy Papps Principal Narelle Burns A/H Sports co-ordinator Ben Jaeger Deputy Principal Amanda James Rosemary Merlino Staff Representatives Scott Polley Troy McMellon Alex Yin / Lois Beale Alison McCarthy Kim Freeman Co-opted Members Jasmine Heaney Athena Halatsis Glenys deWit / Jen Goodman (Finance Officers)

School Council oversees several committees and we would like as many parents as possible to be part of this committee structure. You don’t need to be on school Council to be on a committee. It is an excellent way to meet school families. These committees include:

Finance Committee – oversees the financial position of the school and sets the yearly budget and Materials and Services

fees. There are two meetings a term, held on Mondays before Council week.

Fundraising Committee – involves a small group of ‘doers’ who coordinate a range of fundraising events. Committee

members co-opt friends to help them manage these fundraisers. After an initial meeting there are infrequent meetings through the year.

Strawberry Fair Committee – this committee is managed by Coordinators, and there are several subcommittees to

coordinate aspects of the fair. Meetings occur from term 1 onwards and are more frequent just prior to the fair.

OSHC Committee – as the employer of OSHC, Council needs to monitor finances, staffing and programs.

Canteen Committee – this committee plan a special lunch per term and manage a tuck shop for snack foods, whilst

lunches are outsourced twice a week. Meetings are in school time twice per term.

Sports Committee – manages all the after school sports, with a coordinator for each sport.

School Pride Committee – is the amalgamation of three committees; School Improvement, Student Services and Grounds,

who work to improve the physical environment of the school. They meet once per term on a Tuesday evening.

SAPSASA, Camps & Sport

The standard of our OSHC programme has exceeded required standards. The full Annual Report is available on the EPS website.

Several families have asked about the Edwardstown Primary School Parent Facebook page. This site was set up by

a parent and is open to all members of EPS. While users are free to add information regarding sport, request details and

provide updates for community events, parenting, walking school bus, etc, it is not monitored by the school and can be

accessed by others. Please be mindful of this and refrain from posting photos or specific information identifying school

members. It is a useful way of keeping up to date in an informal way if everyone respects the privacy of others.

As camps and Sports Day are happening this term a general reminder that no photos of students apart from your own

should be posted on any social media sites.

STAFF CAR PARK

The Staff Car park is out of bounds for parents to collect and drop off students during the hours of 8am – 4pm as some of our staff work part time. In addition the safety of our students who use the crossing path during school hours is our main concern. In the past we have had some ‘near misses’ when parents drive into the carpark during school hours. We appreciate your assistance with this.

FUNDRAISING EASTER RAFFLE Everyone loves a Easter Raffle, and this year we are going to do it again. We are asking for donations from each family to contribute to our Easter Raffle prize baskets. Please place your donation of small chocolate eggs, bunnies, bilbies, soft toys etc in the box provided in the front foyer or in the box outside of your child’s classroom. The donations will be made into beautiful Easter baskets, resulting in several prizes. Tickets will be sent home today. Please sell to family and friends. Please support our school. Thank you, Fundraising Committee

SCHOOL FEES 2017

The Material & Services fee approved for 2017 is $370-00 per student for the year. The invoice for school fees will be sent home via students within the next 2 weeks. We ask that payment be made at your earliest convenience but certainly before the end of this term (April 13th). PAYMENT PLANS are a great way to stay on top of all the beginning of the school year fees. Please speak with either Finance Officer, Glenys de Wit or Jen Goodman, to organize a Payment Plan. It takes 5 minutes to set up. The excursion levy for 2017 remains at $60 and will also be invoiced along with the Materials & Services fees. School Card Do you think you may qualify? Please pop into the front office and pick up an application

form. If you were eligible last year for School Card, please remember that you need to complete an application EACH YEAR. Thank you. SCHOOL CAMPS – Term 1 It’s a financially busy time of year for families with M&S Fees, Event Levy and Camps. A PAYMENT PLAN can help you to remain in control of all of the above fees. You can see either Glenys or Jen in the Finance Office; we can set and forget a Payment Plan, with peace of mind that all your fees will be taken care of by a certain date.

SUMMER SPORT NEWS Basketball Fixtures will be on the website www.marion.basketball.net.au

Cricket Fixtures are available online . http://apsc.sa.cricket.com.au EPS B Grade cricket - Edwardstown vs Goodwood The game this week wasn't as close as last week (2 run difference) but we put up a good fight. The scoring was very high, even though fewer wides were bowled. Edwardstown had lots of big hits, but Goodwood were better. From the start of the game we could see that lessons could be learnt from Goodwood as they demonstrated how to get quick singles. That helped us a lot. Oliver

UNIFORM SHOP NEWS In 2017 our Uniform Shop will be open on Tuesdays (not Wednesdays) and Friday mornings. If you aren’t free those mornings, please feel free to pop in and grab an order form. It will be processed and left at the Front Office for collection anytime during school office hours. A big Thank you to our Volunteer Helpers in our uniform shop, Larni, Jo, Lee and Gina. Your help is much appreciated, especially on busy mornings! SECONDHAND UNIFORM – We have lots of good quality, cheap second hand clothes. Please come and have a look, have a shop and buy a bargain

GET INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL BANKING PROGAM Edwardstown Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).

Getting involved in School Banking is easy! All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways: 1. Online Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. 2. In branch Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate. If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet. School Banking is every Thursday. Each week you need to hand in your bank book to your classroom teacher. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office, or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
