Due to our enrollment projections at this time we are NOT anticipating at 4/5 spilt classroom for SY 2016-2017.
We did receive may inquiries from parents positive about the opportunity, and if enrollment does determine the 4/5 split as the best alternative for class size parents will be contacted in August before any child is enrolled in a 4/5 combination classroom. The Importance of Play! David Elking is the author of The Hurried Child and Ties That Stress, author of The Power of Play “A Happy and Productive Life” must include playing, loving, and working. Elking writes about three misconceptions of how children learn:
1. That children learn by watching 2. That they are “sponges” who soak up everything 3. They just need to look harder to see the lesson.
Instead During the early years of life the child does not learn by watching, absorbing, or looking harder. The young child does learn by constructing and reconstructing the world through his play-generated learning experiences. Play can do the following for both children and adults:
• Relieve stress. Play is fun and can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
• Improve brain function. Playing chess, completing puzzles, or pursuing other fun activities that challenge the brain can help prevent memory problems and improve brain function.
• Stimulate the mind and boost creativity. Young children often learn best when they are playing—and that principle applies to adults, as well. You’ll learn a new task better when it’s fun and you’re in a relaxed and playful mood.
• Improve relationships and your connection to others. Sharing laughter and fun can foster empathy, compassion, trust, and intimacy with others. Play doesn’t have to be a specific activity; it can also be a state of mind.
• Keep you feeling young and energetic. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
