Relieving Principal’s Message Last Wednesday, the Albury Network Director, Dr Brad Russell, advertised the Lavington East Public School Principal position. The position will close on Wednesday 29 August and an announcement will be made before the end of the term, after interviews have concluded.

Please be aware that there has recently been a number of incidents in the Albury and surrounding area where an unknown person in a white van has approached students from local schools. It is critical that parents reinforce stranger danger and the importance of children being aware of safe behaviour. Our school will reinforce it through classroom learning. Please be vigilant. Well done to all the Yr3/4 students who represented our school last Friday at the Rugby League/League Tag Trent Barrett Shield. We had three boys teams and two girls teams. All the students can be very proud of their efforts, especially our girls league tag team that won the Albury final and will now progress to the Riverina finals in Wagga. A fantastic effort! A big thank you to all the parents and staff who provided amazing support to enable these students to enjoy this opportunity. A big thank you also to Dean Wymark, NRL Game Development Officer, who continues to be a great supporter of our school.

This Friday will be our last week of PSSA Winter sport. The students have enjoyed the opportunity to play competitive sport where they can test their skills and teamwork against other schools. As a school, we have more than held our own, with consistent success. Students have improved their level of sporting skills, team work, communication, resilience and sportsmanship. Well done to all of the staff for their efforts organising and running the various sports. A big thank you to Murray HS for their continued support of providing umpires each Friday. Without these dedicated high school students, PSSA sport wouldn’t be able to go ahead.

Speaking of Murray HS, our Year 6 students enjoyed their second orientation visit yesterday. It was another opportunity to become more familiar with the layout of the school, staff and how the school functions. A big thank you to Murray HS who do a terrific job organising all of this. Their keenness to ensure that these Year 6 students enjoy a smooth transition into high school next year is greatly appreciated.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU

We have also attached to this newsletter a flowchart that shows who to speak to if you have any concerns about your child.

The first point of call is always your child’s class teacher and is who you will be referred to should you ring or ask to make an appointment via the office. The next level of support above this is our Executive team of Assistant Principals and Instructional Leaders. They will check with you if you have already spoken to the class teacher regarding your concerns and if not, will refer you back to them first of all as they see your child every day in the classroom and know them best. The final step is when ongoing concerns are referred to me after going through the process described above. As you can appreciate running a school of our size and complexity can be time consuming which is why we have simple procedures in place to ensure concerns can be addressed promptly and efficiently at the classroom level first of all.

Class teachers are more than happy to speak with you regarding any concerns you may have, but please understand that before school is when staff are usually busy preparing for the day’s lessons and many afternoons involve meetings and professional learning. It is vital that staff get to these commitments on time so they are unable to speak with you at length about issues without you making a prior appointment at a time that is convenient for you both. We thank you for your understanding of this if staff say they must leave to make it to meetings on time as directed by me their supervisor.

Thank you for your continued support of our fantastic school, great staff and amazing students.

Mr Jason Weaven Relieving Principal

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS STILL URGENTLY

NEEDED The school canteen is a positive way to be involved with your school. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and interact with Lavington East Public School’s students, staff, parents and caregivers. Most importantly, by volunteering to help, it will assist our P&C to continue to provide nutritious food to our students. Did you know that volunteering in our school canteen is an approved activity for job seekers undertaking voluntary work? Contact Elissa or Sharon, via the school, for more information.
