Home Sweet, Sweet Home” Victorian entertainment: beloved and bawdy An entertainment brought to you by our own, our very own, “Singalong 4 Fun” group. Your MC will be David Hewitt, dressed in Victorian costume while group members will be in the audience to lead the singing. Silly Hats are encouraged. We examine the role of singing, through the medium of a “singalong”, at a time when people had to make their own entertainment. Everyone will have a songsheet including a selection of Victorian songs, many of the choruses will have familiar content. We move from the middle class family gathered round the parlour piano, through the coarser broadside street- ballads; song and supper clubs; chorus songs in the music halls and finally, the comic operas of Gilbert & Sullivan and others. In addition to the songs Penny Wragg of the Poetry group will present three Victorian monologues. No great singing ability is expected!! Nobody will be excluded!!. FREE entry. Who is our mystery performer? Book here: “Home Sweet, Sweet Home” Victorian entertainment: beloved and bawdy We will also showcase our “Concert Party” which meets about 12-16 times a year to entertain residents in Care Homes. We hope to encourage other U3A groups to visit “4 th Age” residents of Care Homes with their own programmes.
