Congruent ShapesLearning Objectives:
ALL should understand what congruence is.
MOST should systematically match lines and angles to determine congruence.
SOME will be able to see how congruence is related to reflection and rotation.
When shapes are congruent: corresponding sides are equal in length corresponding angles are equal
What is congruence? When the sides and corresponding angles
are the same.

Here are the groups:Blue, Purple & Orange
and Pink & Green
Take care with this one…Match the congruent shapes together.
Are these two images congruentin this rotation?
Are all the angles and lines the same amountand related in the same way to each other?
4
Are these two images congruentin this reflection?
Are all the angles and lines the same amountand related in the same way to each other?
5
Are these two images congruentin this enlargement?
Are all the angles and lines the same amountand related in the same way to each other?

Put these statements into the categoriesALWAYS TRUE, SOMETIMES TRUE & TOTALLY FALSEthen record them in your book with an example of
each.a) Cut-out congruentshapes fit exactly
on top of one another.
e) The shapes which havethe same areaare congruent.
d) If two shapes havethe same perimeter
then they are congruent.
b) If the angles of twoshapes are the same
then they are congruent.
c) The perimetersof two congruent shapes
are the same.
Finishing Exercise
Always True Sometimes True Totally False
f) The lengthsof two corresponding sides
are different.

are the same.
Put comments and diagrams to explain aboutyour reasons for each of the statements
