Thursday, 11 June 2020, Term 2 Week 7
Dear Parents, Staff and Students
St Marcellin Champagnat
Faithful and ever present God,
Feast Day Celebrations
Unfortunately, with the current situation leading to the cancellation of so many events, our
Champagnat celebrations were also impacted. However, the trivia competition between
homerooms went ahead with the winning six classes to receive a BBQ lunch as a prize. As
always, the rivalry and competition was keen and it was at least one of the fun activities that
could still happen. Thank you to Mr Curran (Acting REC) and the College Leaders for organising
and conducting the competition.
Each year as part of the walkathon activities there is a raffle drawn with associated prizes. In an
attempt to keep the spirit of this occasion alive, we still held the raffle with six Rebel vouchers
available. One student from each year group was the lucky recipient. Thank you to Mr Sinadinos
(PDHPE Co-ordinator) for purchasing the prizes and conducting the activity.
Illness
As we move into the winter season, I would like to remind parents that sick children should not
be sent to school. In recent days, a number of students have presented in class with cold or flu
symptoms. As per our current protocols, parents are contacted and students will be required to
obtain a doctor’s certificate in order to return to school. If your son is unwell, he needs to remain
at home until the illness has passed. Thank you to parents for your support in this matter.
Compass
As the College introduces Compass, there will undoubtedly be some initial administrative issues.
Accurate student attendance records are a significant component of the Compass student
information system. On a fortnightly basis (Day 1), the College will email those parents whose
sons have had unexplained absences for the previous two weeks. Those parents are required to
add an Attendance Note in Compass providing reasons for these unexplained absences. Failure
to do so will result in his attendance record reflecting unjustified absences. Throughout the
implementation of Compass, should parents encounter any difficulties please feel free to contact
the College.
In addition, as part of the Compass introduction, student late arrivals to the College have been
amended. Consequently, if a student is late three times a term, he will receive a College
Detention.
Finally, thank you to everyone in the College community as we work together to ensure the best
possible educational opportunities for our young men.
Mr John Riordan
Principal

FINIS CORONAT OPUS - The end crowns the work
In light of the postponement of the Walkathon, the College raffled off six $100 Rebel Sport vouchers during recess and lunch
on Friday, 5 June. Whilst the students unfortunately missed out on one of the most enjoyable and spiritual days on the College
calendar, our Senior College leaders, Acting Religious Education Co-ordinator Mr Curran and College Principal Mr Riordan
assisted in drawing the prizes and ensuring the day’s usual festivities were still celebrated. Plenty of hype and
fanfare was present as we travelled across the various yards for each year group and drew the prizes.
Congratulations to the following students on winning the vouchers -
Year 7 Harrison Lehmann
Year 8 Jack Pereira
Year 9 Anthony Keremelevski
Year 10 Singano Mhando
Year 11 CJ Serra
Year 12 David Chin

Study Without Stress Study Without Stress (SWoS) is a program for students in grades 10 to 12 that equips them with knowledge and practical tips
on how to approach and overcome the stress associated with heavy workload and exams in the final years of high school.
Students are encouraged to participate in the program before stress has reached a severe level, however the program can be
beneficial at any time. The program uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques to help participants get the most out of
their final years at school whilst keeping stress to a manageable level.
