World Reformation Exhibition Gates of Freedom Welcome to the World Reformation Exhibition! During the #Reformationssommer 2017, everyone will come together at the place where it all began 500 years ago. People from all over the world will celebrate the Reformation then and now. Reformation means shaping the future. What are the issues that are changing and preoccupying our societies? Does the Reformation idea serve as a model for meeting present and future challenges and if so, for which ones? What does it mean for each individual person? The World Reformation Exhibition offers a platform for exploring these questions. From the 20th of May until the 10th of September our motto will be: reflect on historical insights, perceive present chal- lenges, and question the world. The open-air exhibition is under the heading ‘Gates of Freedom’ – symbolizing the gates pushed open by the Reformation. Just as Martin Luther in 1517 challenged the circumstances of his time, in 2017 we will discuss the present: spirituality, youth, justice, peace & integrity of creation, globalization  | one world, ecumenism & reli- gion and culture. The topics are grouped into seven gate areas. This creates both thematic and spatial orientation. Installations, designed by students from different universi- ties in Germany and Austria, invite you into each gate area to discover and reflect on the topic. Gathered here are representatives of international institu- tions and organizations, churches from all over the world, initiatives, and many cultural workers. In pavilions, tents, cafés, bars, or on open-air stages throughout the town they offer different perspectives on important current issues, whether in panel discussions, readings, worship services, workshops, concerts, plays, or much more. Each of the 16 weeks follows a particular theme, and has attracted inspiring speakers and public figures to Witten- berg. Join in the celebrations of this special anniversary in the #Reformationssommer! Welcome to Lutherstadt Wittenberg! #Reformationssommer | r2017.org/en Gate 1: Welcome Upon arriving in Lutherstadt Wit- tenberg main station you will enter the Welcome gate area. Here you will get an immediate impression of the World Reformation Exhibi- tion. Climb up the 27 meter high lookout tower in the shape of the Luther Bible and enjoy the view over the town. In the Storymobile which has travelled through 19 Eu- ropean countries you can watch videos, look at photos, and listen to stories that have been recorded since it began its journey in No- vember 2016. Gate 2: Spirituality Right next to the Luther House, where Martin Luther lived and worked, is an area where you can explore your own spirituality: by climbing up the Bunkerberg hill to recall bibli- cal mountain-top experiences, or by walking over, under and along an installation made of planks. This is also the starting point of the pilgrimage ‘Spiritual Journey’ which will take you to twelve inspiring locations in the town. Children are wel- come to collect stamps at each place. Gate 3: Youth Feel free to experience new things and enjoy the future visions of young people in the youngPOINTreformation. Find your way through the youth labyrinth, symbolized by various tree trunks. Don’t miss out on the centuries-old Luther Oak and let the 360° Panorama LUTHER 1517 by Yadegar Asisi take you back to Wittenberg as it was 500 years ago. Gate 4: Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Just north of the city centre you can take a stroll around the Swan Pond. The refugee boat installation offers a moving backdrop and raises current issues about asylum and migra- tion. A sign-guided tour will stir you to reflect on a world full of injustice, violence and environmental degradation. Share your own vision of a better world in places like the Café #Friedenswege (‘Paths of Peace’). Gate 5: Globalization | One World A variety of regional, national and international initiatives present themselves in a landscape of transparent glass cubes. Discuss the current challenges of globalization, walk through 17 stations on the UN sustainable development goals in the One-World-Tent, follow ‘95 interviews’ at the big kitchen table, or enter the Church of Light. Gate 6: Ecumenism and Religion Hundreds of trees in the Luther Garden, set out in the form of the Luther rose, form the heart of the sixth Gate area. The House of One offers room for Jews, Christians and Muslims all under one roof. Spend some time in one of the many-fac- eted exhibitions on Christian and religious diversity, in the Ecumenical Tavern or in the Bavarian Garden. And don’t miss out on a ride on the big Ferris wheel sponsored by the Pastoral Care in the Evangelical Church in Germany. Gate 7: Culture Discover different installations on the Castle Meadow and ex- plore the mutual relationship between art and culture: hang- ing gardens, a compost city, warm water fountains in the Paradise Garden, glass plinths in the hilly terrain and a walk-in pavilion made of shoe-shine boxes by Ethiopian children. Visit the exhibition ‘Luther and the Avant-garde’ in the Old Prison, where the spiritual figure of Martin Luther meets international contemporary art. Over the summer a variety of concerts will take place in front of the historic façade of the Castle Church. Thursday, 1 June From 10:00 am Activity to participate: Wittenberg in children’s hands. World Reformation ExhibitionGates of Freedom

Welcome to the World Reformation Exhibition!

From the 20th of May until the 10th of September our motto will be: reflect on historical insights, perceive present chal-lenges, and question the world.

The open-air exhibition is under the heading ‘Gates of Freedom’ – symbolizing the gates pushed open by the Reformation. Just as Martin Luther in 1517 challenged the circumstances of his time, in 2017 we will discuss the present: spirituality, youth, justice, peace & integrity of creation, globalization | one world, ecumenism & reli-gion and culture. The topics are grouped into seven gate areas. This creates both thematic and spatial orientation. Installations, designed by students from different universi-ties in Germany and Austria, invite you into each gate area to discover and reflect on the topic.

Gathered here are representatives of international institu-tions and organizations, churches from all over the world, initiatives, and many cultural workers. In pavilions, tents, cafés, bars, or on open-air stages throughout the town they offer different perspectives on important current issues, whether in panel discussions, readings, worship services, workshops, concerts, plays, or much more.

Each of the 16 weeks follows a particular theme, and has attracted inspiring speakers and public figures to Witten-berg. Join in the celebrations of this special anniversary in the #Reformationssommer!

Welcome to Lutherstadt Wittenberg!

#Reformationssommer | r2017.org/enGate 1: Welcome

Upon arriving in Lutherstadt Wit-tenberg main station you will enter the Welcome gate area. Here you will get an immediate impression of the World Reformation Exhibi-tion. Climb up the 27 meter high lookout tower in the shape of the Luther Bible and enjoy the view over the town. In the Storymobile which has travelled through 19 Eu-ropean countries you can watch videos, look at photos, and listen to stories that have been recorded since it began its journey in No-vember 2016.

Gate 2: Spirituality

Right next to the Luther House, where Martin Luther lived and worked, is an area where you can explore your own spirituality: by climbing up the Bunkerberg hill to recall bibli-cal mountain-top experiences, or by walking over, under and along an installation made of planks. This is also the starting point of the pilgrimage ‘Spiritual Journey’ which will take you to twelve inspiring locations in the town. Children are wel-come to collect stamps at each place.

Gate 3: Youth

Feel free to experience new things and enjoy the future visions of young people in the youngPOINTreformation. Find your way through the youth labyrinth, symbolized by various tree trunks. Don’t miss out on the centuries-old Luther Oak and let the 360° Panorama LUTHER 1517 by Yadegar Asisi take you back to Wittenberg as it was 500 years ago.

Gate 4: Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation

Just north of the city centre you can take a stroll around the Swan Pond. The refugee boat installation offers a moving backdrop and raises current issues about asylum and migra-tion. A sign-guided tour will stir you to reflect on a world full of injustice, violence and environmental degradation. Share your own vision of a better world in places like the Café #Friedenswege (‘Paths of Peace’).

Gate 5: Globalization | One World

A variety of regional, national and international initiatives present themselves in a landscape of transparent glass cubes. Discuss the current challenges of globalization, walk through 17 stations on the UN sustainable development goals in the One-World-Tent, follow ‘95 interviews’ at the big kitchen table, or enter the Church of Light.

Gate 6: Ecumenism and Religion

Hundreds of trees in the Luther Garden, set out in the form of the Luther rose, form the heart of the sixth Gate area. The House of One offers room for Jews, Christians and Muslims all under one roof. Spend some time in one of the many-fac-eted exhibitions on Christian and religious diversity, in the Ecumenical Tavern or in the Bavarian Garden. And don’t miss out on a ride on the big Ferris wheel sponsored by the Pastoral Care in the Evangelical Church in Germany.

Gate 7: Culture

Discover different installations on the Castle Meadow and ex-plore the mutual relationship between art and culture: hang-ing gardens, a compost city, warm water fountains in the Paradise Garden, glass plinths in the hilly terrain and a walk-in pavilion made of shoe-shine boxes by Ethiopian children. Visit the exhibition ‘Luther and the Avant-garde’ in the Old Prison, where the spiritual figure of Martin Luther meets international contemporary art. Over the summer a variety of concerts will take place in front of the historic façade of the Castle Church.
