“A plan in the case of emergency.”

There are many things that could make you late or make you unable to pick up your child. What is your plan in the event that this occurs? Do your children know what to do, who to contact or where to go? Although none of us want an emergency to occur, it is so important that we plan for the possibility. Take the time at the beginning of the year to create a plan that works for your family. Consider the following. Who: Who should my kids contact in case I am not home or cannot picked up? How: How will they get home in the event of an emergency? How will they contact me? Where: Where should they go if I am unable to be reached? Write your plan down and share this with all your family members and any contact persons included in the plan. Communication is key! Make sure your kids know what to do and are prepared even when you are not around.

There are times when a student needs to miss school - everyone understands that. But attendance is important. To have a quality education experience, you need to Be Here ! How parents can help:

Schedule medical and dental appointments outside of school

hours.

Schedule vacations during school breaks.

Schedule Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves to coincide

with summer breaks or other scheduled school breaks.

When moving, check school calendars to be aware of important

school dates (beginning/ending of school year; testing dates, breaks, etc.).

Make it a habit to contact their child's teachers/principals to ar-

range to pick up missed school work, either in advance if the absence is known, or the same day their child is absent.

End of day messages

Please notify the front office ONE hour prior

to release bell.

This will allow us to have time to notify teachers and

students

"Dear parents, do you know your 3-5 grader has a Google account? That's right! Please ask your child for his/her username and password, so you can check your child's Gmail account periodically throughout the year. Lessons about digital citizenship will be scheduled shortly, but Gmail accounts are not monitored on a regular basis. If you ever find something inappropriate on your child's Google account, please report it to our admin. Thank you. "

Welcome to Art! In the Art Room the students will be working in six centers: Drawing, Painting, Construction, Ceramics, Fi-

ber Art, and Messy Art (finger paint, paper making, batik, printmaking, etc.). The Rainbow Center is where students photograph their art for the electronic portfolio and they can learn about art and art history by reading, working a puz-zle, playing a game, or doing research. We have incredible new photography equipment this year!

After a few weeks of practice, students will choose the center where they want to work and the project they

want to do. The Inspiration Boards and Books with ideas and Information Boards and Books that show art tech-niques. As students complete one project or if a project needs more than one kind of media they will move around the room as necessary for their goals for their project. Stop by to see how it works!

Important Information About Art Class It is helpful if your child is not wearing special clothes on art days. We do have aprons and children are

taught to use them and reminded when they forget, but an apron cannot always cover every inch of their clothing. They are taught procedures to minimize spills, drips, and splashes, but accidents will occur. Please understand we try to stay clean, but art can be messy! Children are also expected to leave coats, hats, gloves, helmets, lunch boxes and other personal items in their classroom or in the hallway outside the art room. This is to protect their belongings from paint, glue, clay, etc. Sometimes students say they are not allowed to use a tool at home. My response is that at school they can learn to use it because school is where we learn new things. We use needles, pins, scissors, hot glue guns, a drill, and irons as needed for projects. Students will be taught safety rules for all of these items and it is important that they follow rules. If they do not use a tool safely, they will not be able to use it for a school quarter. They have to ask permission to use the iron or the glue guns and they may only use the drill with the teacher assisting. If you do not want your child to learn to use these tools, please email me at [email protected].

Art Volunteers We can use volunteers in the Art Room! We always need help with things like cutting paper and refilling containers with supplies, but if you can sew, crochet, knit, draw, paint, or do any kind of art and you would like to help children learn how to do your kind of art, we can use your help. Students often need one-on-one help, so more adults means the children get more assistance. If you are experienced with DSLR cameras (ours are Canon) and you have time to volunteer, we could use your help! We can also use help with the electronic portfolios, especially for the younger classes. Email me at [email protected] if you would like to do art with us.
