Thubten Norbu Ling Among the most essential teachings in the Mahayana tradition of Buddhism are the instructions on developing bodhichitta, the aspiration to attain enlightenment for the sake of all beings. In this weekend retreat, Geshe Sherab will skillfully provide teachings on the technique to develop bodhichitta known as “equalizing and exchanging self and others” that utilizes the profound and powerful technique of tonglen, “taking and giving.” The weekend will also include guided meditations on cultivating bodhichitta accompanied by the practice of Chenrezig (Skt. Avalokiteshvara), the manifestation of the compassion of all the Buddhas. Silence will be observed during some portions of the weekend and fees for both residential and non-residential participation in the retreat include all materials and vegetarian meals, commencing with dinner on Friday and concluding with lunch on Sunday. Retreat fees are: single occupancy at $325; double occupancy at $275; and non-residential participation at $225. Applications for scholarships are available for ordained sangha members, students and others who are financially challenged. Registration closes on November 1, 2013 . Early registration is encouraged. This retreat will take place at The IHM Retreat and Conference Center (www.ihmretreat.com), a serene and private oasis nestled in the piñon-covered foothills of Santa Fe. For residential participation, both single and double occupancy accommodations are available. We should be able to accommodate all single occupancy requests but in the event that we cannot, they will be honored to the extent possible on a first-come, first-serve basis. For both residential and non-residential participants, the retreat fees include vegetarian meals commencing with dinner on Friday and concluding with lunch on Sunday. The caterer will be able to provide food to meet most dietary restrictions required for medical purposes. Please provide the information below with your registration to assist us in planning the event. A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due with your registration. Any amount you pay in excess of that will be refundable until November 1, 2013, at which time registration will be closed and the remainder of the balance for all participants is due. Limited partial scholarships may be available so if you do not have the resources to afford the full fee to attend this retreat, please indicate that you would like to be considered for this and also please complete our Scholarship Application obtained at TNL or at the “News” page on our website (www.tnlsf.org).
