Fungus called Candida Overgrowth of the fungus in your mouth

Everyone has some amount of cnadida in their body

Who gets it?

Anyone is able to get thrush Babies and elderly has higher risk

Etiology

No incubation period

Signs & Symptoms White blotches in mouth Painful in babies Not eating in babies

Detection Simple observation Sometimes culture taken

Pathophysiology

Acute disease

Can catch it again multiple times

Affects mouth; rarely spreads through body

Prevention

Prevention Babies

Make sure bottles are cleaned thoroughly Elderly

Properly fitting dentures

Treatment

Nystatin Liquid applied directly to the white patches

Sometimes antifungal pills are needed if it has spread

Washing mouth with diluted hydrogen peroxide
