Prized for its exquisite drape and supreme softness, the Sandra Jordan Prima Alpaca collection of luxurious home textiles is known for its spectacular palette and unparalleled sumptuous texture for upholstery and throws to curtains and wall coverings. Once called the “Gold of the Andes,” Prima Alpaca is one of the world’s rarest natural fibers and is a time-honored process thousands of years in the making. It is only 1% of the luxury fiber in the world. Only 10% of that 1% is the high-quality used to make Prima Alpaca.

Prima Alpaca is created from the first shearing of the baby alpaca, a domesticated breed indigenous to the Andes regions of Peru. The rare beauty of these unique creatures makes Prima Alpaca one of the softest fibers in the world. The process of making Prima Alpaca, from the raising of the alpaca through the manufacturing of the textile, is an extremely earth-friendly and low impact process that creates jobs for herdsmen and textile workers living in remote areas of Peru. There is a tremendous amount of handwork involved in each step, including meticulously hand-sorting the fiber for softness and luster and setting up the looms to make the yarn. Workers apprentice for years to acquire these hand-sorting skills. Finishing the fabric can involve up to 12 labor-intensive steps.
