Finding out more about Reggae music...We are going to research and create a presentation on Reggae music. You may choose how to present your findings (Powerpoint, poster etc.) but your presentation should include:
• Where Reggae music originated / came from and any interesting facts about the country.• A description of the what influenced Reggae music. Why did it develop and become popular?• A description of Reggae music (i.e. Instruments, rhythm, tempo, melody) and even an audio clip / video / performance of the music

As it lies between South America and Europe, Pirates used to use the Caribbean as an area where they could attack Spanish and British ships, stealing their cargo.

Latin America is a collective name given to some countries of Central and South America. They were heavily influenced by early Portugese and Spanish explorers and traders. The name Latin America is given as each of the countries speaks a language which derives from Latin (i.e. Spanish, Portugese and French).

latin american musicSamba Samba music originated in Brazil and is often associated with carnivals. Within Samba music, the rhythm section is very important.
The instruments often use "question and answer" where one instrument plays a rhythm and is answered by the rest.
There is also a "groove" where each player performs a different rhythm producing crossrhythms and syncopation.
Did you know....Brazil are hosting the 2014 football world cup and the 2016 Olympics!
Syncopation = "Off the beat"Crossrhythms = 2 or more differentrhythms played across each other at the same time.

What is question and answer?
• Split into pairs or small groups. • One person will 'lead' by creating the rhythmic question. Clap a 4 beat rhythm. As soon as you have clapped the rhythm, the rest of the group should reply with the same rhythm.

Sitar A large manystringed instrument. Some of the strings ring out whilst the melody is played. This means the music uses drones (Like Scottish Music). The melody is often improvised.
Tabla Small drums which play a syncopated rhythm. They are played with the finger tips.
MelodyIndian music is made up of different scales called 'Rags'. Each has a different character or mood associated with it (and some are associated with a time of day).
