ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR DIVERSITY IN HEALTH MANAGEMENT The Institute for Diversity in Health Management (Institute) was founded in 1994 to address the lack of ethnic, cultural and racial diversity in health care management. The Institute continues this mission of expanding leadership opportunities for diverse individuals by collaborating with educators and health services organizations. The Institute assists health care organizations with efforts to develop a pipeline of diverse leaders for health care, while also providing cultural awareness and diversity manage-ment tools to hospitals and health care systems, all in an effort to enhance the care provided to an increasingly diverse society.

The Institute is committed to expanding health care leadership opportunities for ethni-cally, culturally and racially diverse individuals and to increasing the number of these individuals entering and advancing in the field.

The Institute was founded through a collaborative effort among the American Hospital Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association of Health Services Executives and the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

VISION Leadership of health care institutions should reflect the ethnic, racial and cultural diversity of the communities they serve, resulting in the delivery of culturally appropri-ate health care to all constituent communities.

Hospitals and health systems strive to make sure that every individual achieves the highest level of health. However, to truly achieve that goal as our nation becomes increasingly diverse, we must accelerate progress toward eliminating disparities in care to ensure that equitable care is delivered to all patients in every community.

The Institute for Diversity in Health Management and a number of national health care organizations have made ending health care disparities a top priority. Some of our efforts include the #123forEquity Pledge to Act Campaign and the National Call to

Action to Eliminate Health Care Disparities.

These efforts focus on three areas we believe provide the greatest opportunities for hospitals and health systems to increase the equity of care they provide to patients—increasing the collection and use of race, ethnicity and language preference data; cultural competency training; and diversity in leadership and governance.

We have set ambitious goals to improve in each of these areas by 2020. As a field, we have made some progress, but more needs to be done.

That’s why the theme for our 2016 National Leadership and Education Conference is Accelerating Health Equity Through Diversity and Inclusion.

The 2016 conference, which takes place June 21–22 in Philadelphia, is designed to provide strategies and tools for hospital leaders to accelerate their efforts to eliminate disparities in care and inequities in health for their patients and communities. Our focus areas include:

• Collaboration: Explore diversity management best practices and community-based approaches to address the socio-economic determinants of health. Network with senior health care executives and diversity practitioners as well as emerging leaders from across the country.

• Education: Hear from national experts on diversity and inclusion, and participate in two days of leadership development. You’ll also gain access to valuable resources that can help guide your organization on its equity journey.

• Innovation: Learn new strategies from hospital and health system leaders who are making significant progress in accelerating health equity, and find out how to make the business, economic and clinical case for these efforts.

We’ll also unveil the findings from our “Diversity and Disparities: A Benchmark Study of U.S. Hospitals,” and recognize survey participants who are leading the way.

Achieving health equity and eliminating disparities in care is imperative to improv-ing the health of the people and communities you serve. Show your commitment to diversity, inclusion and health equity by registering today for the June conference.

Please visit www.diversityconnection.org for more conference details, including how you can support the conference.

See you in Philadelphia … and bring a colleague!
