Prevention of VTE in UK
VTE caused 25 000 deaths a year (costs £640 million)
Yet currently it’s responsible for more deaths than breast cancer, AIDS and traffic accidents combined
… is largely preventable through cheap and effective drugs.
A report by the Health Select Committee has uncovered shocking evidence that hospitals are failing to implement sufficient safeguards to prevent patients from developing VTE.
… there are safe, efficacious and cost effective means of preventing the condition
Each hospital should establish a thrombosis team

Conclusions • L’appréciation du risque individuel est
incontournable
• HBPM > HNF
